Joe W. Posted October 6, 2024 Report Posted October 6, 2024 Our neighbor is replacing all her kitchen cabinet drawers and doors and I offered to take them off her hands instead of them winding up in a landfill. The drawer fronts and cabinet doors are a hardwood and are blond/white colored wood. I am thinking the wood is hard maple. Was wondering if anyone has experience/knowledge of the hard wood used to make kitchen cabinet and drawer fronts. These appear to be quality made and my guess is they are the original cabinets. The house is approximately 45 years old. I like to use recycled wood whenever possible and these pieces are a welcome addition. FrankEV and OCtoolguy 2 Quote
scrollerpete Posted October 6, 2024 Report Posted October 6, 2024 That will be quality wood since the cabinets are 45 years old OCtoolguy 1 Quote
FrankEV Posted October 6, 2024 Report Posted October 6, 2024 If it is hard Maple and 45 years old, it is going to be REALY, REALY hard. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Roger that on the wood being hard - I put one of the cabinet doors thru the band saw using a half inch blade and, still taking my time, got scorch marks along the cut edge. Have not experienced that before, to that degree, when cutting other wood. The cabinets are painted white, which makes me happy. It seems to get to bare wood that has been stained seems to require taking off anywhere from an 1/8th to 3/16s of the wood. OCtoolguy and FrankEV 2 Quote
Solution Joe W. Posted October 20, 2024 Author Solution Report Posted October 20, 2024 Thanks for the input. I did look hard maple up on the hardness scale and see it is up there. Will try a Steve Good guardian angle pattern soon for my niece and let you know how it cuts. OCtoolguy and FrankEV 2 Quote
