Allen levine Posted November 13, 2024 Author Report Posted November 13, 2024 Next one from her book inwasnt too keen on some of the others but decided to do the oh on swing as my grandson loves the swing using wood in my rack don't have yellow heart or whatever that yellow wood is I substituted white cedar for hair sapele for shirt and cherry for pants oak for swing heres where I'm at just peeled away some paper to see contrasting colors barb.j.enders 1 Quote

The nice thing about this hobby it putting your own "swing" on things. Not everyone wears the same colour of clothing, so you shouldn't always use the woods listed. Quote

Thankyou for kind comments As of right now I will only be using what I have on my rack I have sapele hard maple Spanish cedar White cedar walnut small amount of oak (I don't use oak for furniture ) poplar some pine a lot of 2 bys but haven't used them cherry and some ipe which I don't think I could cut with scroll saw anfew other pieces of spalted maple spalted other species from my days of turning and some small pieces of olive and other turning species eventually I'll get into some exotic species if I feel a piece requires it and I get better at this barb.j.enders 1 Quote
Scrappile Posted November 14, 2024 Report Posted November 14, 2024 I have cut both Cherry and IPE on my scroll saw. For the Cherry, I use painter's tape on it to help prevent burning. The IPE was not more than 1/2" thick, but it cut nicely. Quote
