FrankEV Posted June 4 Report Posted June 4 Baltimore Oriole #2 – My 7 ½” x 11“ pattern was inspired by a Photo of a real a Baltimore Oriole. Wood used: Aspen, Blue Pine, Osage Orange, Sapele, Walnut, Wenge, and mounted on a ½” thick Hobby Lobby Live Edge Basswood Disc backer. Finished with multiple coats of spray Clear Gloss Acrylic Finish. Unfortunately, my last piece of Osage Orange that I used for this piece was not bright Orange and was browner. After shaping and assembly, with an application of the finish, the Osage Orange darkened considerably. Baltimore Oriole #1 – After mounting #2 on a Live Edge Disc backer, I liked the presentation much better, so I decided to mount #1 (which I had previously posted in Bragging Rights) on a similar backer and include a new pic here. #2 #1 Comments and critiques allways welcome. meflick, Dak0ta52, TAIrving and 1 other 4 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted June 5 Report Posted June 5 Both are looking great. Interesting though, they look like completely different birds. The head shape is different. FrankEV 1 Quote

I created #1 first, from a artist rendition. Never thought to verify if it actually looked like a real BO. Later, found an actual BO photo that I made #2 pattern from. Before cutting I did not really notice the significant difference, except for the beak. Chalked that up to artist license. Both pattern were interesting to cut and build. barb.j.enders 1 Quote
