I printed another poster for my display at this year’s county fair and am looking to change up the way it is mounted. The previous posters were glued to foamcore board and then I added a 1.5” wide by 1/4” thick wood border to the face of the poster to give it a mock frame look. Unfortunately this didn’t keep the foamcore board from twisting and not sitting well on the easel it was displayed on. This time around I’m thinking of using either 4/4 or 5/4 stock with a grove centered in the edges of the frame sides that the foamcore would slide into. I’m thinking this would stiffen everything and not let the foamcore twist.  Any other suggestions out there for me to ponder?

I have dealt with these issues for more than three decades in framing shops environment.

My suggestion for your frame with a slot idea is to make the slot wide enough for two foam core panels. When the panels warp, turn the warped pieces towards each other so that the panels are forcing each other to "unwarp". When you store the panels, try to do so with the panels flat against something that won't move and stack some weight on them. Either on the floor or slanted against a wall.

I've used this technique on plywood, Masonite, matboard, and more. Keeping a panel flat is much easier than trying to flatten a panel after it has warped.
