I need to make a plague to fit a frame with glass so needs to be super thin. I know I will have to back up with another 1/16 sheet to cut but not sure how basswood cuts. Any one with information on this will really help. Thx in advance RJ

I've cut 1/8 bass and I can tell you my saw with a Flying Dutchman 2/0 and it was like a knife thru butter, no backer, but I went slow, had the saw running pretty slow too. I would recommend doing some test cuts with scrap that would match what you project cut will be to get a feel for it.

Good luck...

Yeah basswood cuts very easy.. I haven't messed with it in many years as that was what I made portrait style cut from before I learned about BBply so that was in the beginning of my scrolling days. I remember getting some fuzzys on the back but that may have been blade choice or the cheapy scroll saw that was likely untuned, LOL

I would say bass wood is right there with sugar pine when it comes to hardness. When scrolling soft woods like that you really have to go slow because there is really no resistance from the wood and it could cut too fast. Especially 1/16" thick. Good luck.

If you remember my posts about the spiral dragons and the bookmarks, both were cut out of a single layer 1/16" basswood on my Hegner saw, using FD Polar #2/0 blades. I used the short stroke and speed of 800-900 spm, the basswood cuts quite easily and any fuzzies clean up easily if you use a stiff backer board to sand on, I used a 320 grit sanding sponge for the cleanup, the fuzzies will be sticky so you need to remove them with light air pressure.
