A Scroller's New Year's Resolution

I posted an article called "A New Year's Resolution" awhile back. It got me thinking, what is your new year's resolutions in regards to scrollsawing/crafting? This year, I'm going to try spoon carving, do more woodturning and scrolling. I also want to start an Etsy store just to try it out. H'bout you? What do you want to accomplish for 2013?

I have 2 goals.

1. Make some non round bowls. I have have the 2 books by Carole Rothman and most of the tools. I have attempted a couple of test bowls with out much success. I want to give it another go in the new year with a different patterns and material.

I would like to get a couple of square or oblong bowls and a couple of wavy done so I can go to "show and tell" at the club and ask the turners it they can do that. There is a friendly rivalry between the scrollers and turners.

2. I want to learn Intarsia too. I have all the tools (I think) and some western red cedar. When I was at Judy Gale Robert's studio in the summer I bought a book and I plan on making all the examples. Judy says it teaches you all the basics. I have built a sanding station that has a wonder wheel and a flexible sanding drum.

I was on the todo list but I had too many projects for Christmas.

Now just have to finish one more club project and get started next week.

I plan on getting back in scrolling this year once it warms up. I spent the last two years working nights and just could not find time to scroll at all I always thought i made too much noise to go out at 2am to scroll. It wasn't the scroll saw as much as it was the shop vac that makes so much noise. I finally managed to move to another job last month but it was already too late for this year Its cold outside and my shed has no heat so I don't bother trying. But then I am in the south so by March it should be warm enough to start up again.
