Clayton717 Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 For all you that do intarsia, do you have a favorite wood that you use? Or one you use the most? For exotics I like using Paduak, yellowheart (they add some nice color) and wenge. For domestic woods I use walnut the most and ambrosia maple a lot especially for antlers on animals. I also like using butternut. Travis 1 Quote
Jim Finn Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 (edited) I have been using some apple wood for intasia lately. When I run out of apple I will go back to poplar, maple and I like to use mesquite also. "Mary" here is mostly peach wood with a little mesquite but it looks just like apple does. marmoh Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 I like using Cedar as it is a soft wood that cuts and sands easy. My sister and BNL just brought me some from the Amish in TN ..... I get 1"x6"x8' boards for $4 each that way. The one wood I do not like is Jatoba ... it sure looks nice but is hard hard hard !!! I have a decent assortment of woods but need more practice to really get a grip on using the hard woods. Think my problem is I don't have a lot of patience and find I am trying to rush the cutting on the hard woods. Practice I guess. Marion Quote
