MrsN Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 A good friend passed away suddenly this weekend. I would like to make a portrait for his family. I am not sure of the quality of the photos, I pulled them from Facebook. I hope one will work Thank you so much Katie. lawson56 1 Quote
Nick@tinkers-cove Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Hi Mrs N. I've got a few minutes spare, so working on a few images for you. Hold on...the better ones usually take a little longer, so please bear with me. I'll be in touch soon. Kindest Regards & Deepest Condolences, Nick. Quote
Nick@tinkers-cove Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 OK...so I'll post them one by one as I complete each. I've basically taken out all of the backgrounds - these tend to take away the focus from the main image. You may want to tidy the outer image lines a little as this can be quite time consuming. You may also want to cut the alternate stripes on the shirt...but that's your decision. The 1st image is fine, except fot the right ear (no reflection). please wait for more. Thanks, Nick. Quote
Nick@tinkers-cove Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Right...Number 2. As before, you may want to work on the outer lines a little, and maybe do something with the shirt stripes. On to 3 now. Nick. Quote
Nick@tinkers-cove Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Number 3. Same as the others, only you may want to add a little detail to the hair - it seems quite flat, but the facials are fine. Again, with the shirt issues...I'd probably take out the lettering. Next. Nick. Quote
Nick@tinkers-cove Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 In my opinion (for what it's worth), the four images that I've edited are the clearest ones with the most contrasting tones. If you want me to have a go at any of the others, just let me know. As for the 4th, this one is quite clean really, but just need the facial features & skin folds just blackening-up. I tend to print off first, then go at it with the thin marker by hand. I really hope that these help a little, during such a sad time. Any further questions of help, don't hesitate to get in touch. Many Thanks, Nick. Quote
MrsN Posted July 8, 2013 Author Report Posted July 8, 2013 thanks for your help! I will clean up those and they will work . Thanks so much for your help. Quote
Nick@tinkers-cove Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 That's fine - no problem Katie. Please let me know how the cutting goes & maybe a photo? Such a worthwhile portrait. Regards, Nick. Quote

heppnerguy Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Wow what a great family we have here. It is touching to see how people are so willing to step up to the plate and lend others a hand. I too, am sorry to here about your personal loss. It looks like your friend was so young. How sad that has to be for you and his family. I am glad you thought about requesting help for a wooden portrait. What a wonderful and lasting gift it will be for their family. I am sure they will have and cherish it all of their lives and pass it down for generations to come. God Bless you and all of the family members who are hurting from this loss. MrsN Posted July 9, 2013 Author Report Posted July 9, 2013 Thanks again for your help with this. Steve was just 27 and a close friend of my husbands and mine. I cleaned up one of nicks patterns (and removed the girl) the pattern really shows his smile. I also love that the American of "American Eagle" is readable on his sweatshirt. It was one of his favorites and since he was a marine it is fitting to have America on his shirt. I cut this out this evening and wanted to share it with you. I will be framing it tomorrow and will show a finished picture. wombatie 1 Quote
heppnerguy Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 Nice to see your portrait. I too, just learned that a friend in Germany has been told there is nothing that can be done further for him and his cancer treatments are finished. My heart is heavy, like yours must be, so I will be shedding some tear time with you Katie. Quote

MrsN Posted July 16, 2013 Author Report Posted July 16, 2013 Thanks again for those of you who helped with patterns and offered your support. I gave these to the family, and they really appreciated it. Here are the finished framed pieces. I did ones of just Steve for his parents and one of him and his wife that I gave to his wife. I have one left to frame for my husband, but it needs a garage proof frame because I will be hung in his shop. Thanks Katie Huntter2022 1 Quote
