JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Have taken up turning recently and have done a few things. Thought I would share a few things with you. Thanks for looking and any and all commments and questions are welcomed. Quote
Barry5180 Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Awesome turnings JT. To me, turning is every bit as enjoyable as scrolling. Wish I had the time and money to do both more often. Barry Quote
Travis Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 You guys are gunna get me divorced! Seeing those, I want to go out and buy myself a lathe, which my wife won't be too thrilled about. I've been saving my pennies, but at this rate, it'll be awhile before I get one. It looks like a ton of fun, though. Beautiful turnings. Nicely done! Quote
Dragon Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 Wonderful turning. I have a lathe but just wish I was half as good. Diane Quote
shadylady0447 Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 JT, your pens are beautiful! I really like the last two....WOW! Fantastic work. Quote
dankc908 Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 JT -- I'm glad you live in New Jersey and I live in Iowa. I, too, love making clocks and turning pens, however, I could never compete with the quality of your work! Great pens! Dan Quote

Ben Ben I have a Jet 1014 and a 1220 and there is so many things you can make on a mini lathe. Unless you are into making large bowels or other large items that require the depth of a larger lathe than to me a mini lathe is just fine. I have no desire for large things such as that so to me a mini is fine. It is not so much the lathe as the expense but the tools the sharpening system and the list goes on. It is a very addictive hobby. I want to thank all for the kind words. Makes me feel good. Thanks for looking. Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted June 19, 2009 Author Report Posted June 19, 2009 Thought I would add a couple more carbon fiber pens to show off. Again thanks for looking. Quote

Travis Posted June 22, 2009 Report Posted June 22, 2009 Yah, pen turning looks like a ton of fun. I'd love to get a nice setup. I really like the green pen. Great job on all of them! Quote
JTTHECLOCKMAN Posted June 23, 2009 Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 Christina and Travis Thanks for the kind words. I am having fun turning pens. I am in the middle of casting some blanks for some bottle stoppers I am going to try next. I will post some photos when I get a chance to finish them. Turning is very addictive as is scrolling. I need to retire and that won't happen for 4 more years.I will have something to do when this happens that is for sure. Quote
greasemonkeyredneck Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 Those are amazing. Did you say you took up turning recently? It looks like recently was years ago with that skill. I have a 36" lathe that was given to me that I've been learning on. I really want to raise the dough to get a mini or the whole setup to get into pens one day. Please tell me more about the carbon fiber. How do you get the contrasting colors in carbon fiber? And how does carbon fiber cut on the lathe compared to wood? Quote

Boy I did not see this question I want to appoligize. I usually answer questions as soon as I see them. I missed this one. To answer the cutting of the carbon fiber material, you actually are not turning the material itself. Theses are sleeves that wrap around the pen tube and then are casted in clear acrylic and when this is turned to the size of the pen kit, the clear acrylic acts like a magnifying glass and really shows of the carbon fiber. You can get this material in array of colors. I hope that answers the questions and again sorry for missing this. Quote
