spirithorse Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Hi, Homer and Carol, I doubt I'll try the pattern but, wanted to thank you for so generously sharing with the group. I do have a few questions though, if you have time to reply. Are all the fins just edge glued to the fish and how is the fish supported on the stand, please? Thanks and God Bless! Bishop Posted September 18, 2013 Author Report Posted September 18, 2013 The scales were made with a 3/16†brass tube that was sanded at a 20-30 degree angle. It was inserted in a dowel rod and we used a small hammer on the harder woods and by hand on the softer woods. The fins Dorsal, tail and anal were all edge glued and then shaped and sanded. Grooves were cut in the belly of the fish, craft knife, for the Pectoral fins and then they were glued in place. When the body parts of the fish were cut out a small groove was left open for the pelvic fins. The fins, pelvic, were then undercut so a tab was made that fit in the groove. The fish was mounted by gluing it with clear drying white glue wherever it touched the base or plants. Hope this answers your questions. Thanks for your interest God Bless Homer & Carol Quote
