As the son my wife and I live with is a "fishing FOOL!" He has rod holders.

Think 2  T's  that are mounted  to the cieling  (appropriate distance apart for rod sizes. Leave enough length &  then has  A piece of    3/4 or 1" schedule 40 plastic pipe (Conduit?? etc. or a strong metal or even thick strong dowel    whatever length you need mounted to the bottom of it  Then Wooden circles/wheels of a large enough diameter to clear  mounted far enough inside to clear the ends! You can use a larger diameter  pipe to space in with!

Think a 15-- 20 inch circle.wheel of 1/2 inch plywood or so.

One end has smaller holes for the tips-- Evenly spaced about 1" in from the edges-  3/4 or about that -- Ocean  rods require larger--- the other end has larger holes so the  grips will just slip in !-1/2 or so adjust to the grip size. Again in from the edges that fits the rods.

Putting in the tip end in and pushing forward; then raising the hanf-grip and coming back to make them hang!.

I do think even I could make them.   If you need pictures of the commercial ones, I can tske and email some.

Hope this helps you understand-- If I need to take the pictures; I will happily do so!

I think you get the idea thoug Section of 2 by 4  and then the downers screwed to the outside.  If the main pipe is longer than all of the rods; it can be designed to turn the full 360 degrees also.

If my idea isn't clear, I can attempt to ake a drawing.

Hi, Darcy,

I previously saw a rod holder that was done in intarsia style but, you could just as easily just cut the silhouette of a fish and evenly space

3/4" dowel rods about 4' long which are the actually rod holders.

To accomplish this, cut the fish silhouette, then drill holes evenly spaced to glue your dowel rods in (sticking straight out from the fish).

The dowel rods have a 3/16th inch kerf or slot cut into the end and you just put the rods in the slot. The rods hang from one of the eyelets on

the fishing rod and don't take up hardly any space at all.

Good luck with your project and God Bless! Spirithorse

I think what you're looking for is a Fishing Rod Rack.  A rod holder is used while fishing when you need to get up out of your chair and get in the cooler for another cold one, you put your pole in the rod holder.  A fishing rod rack is used like a gun rack to display/store your rods.  Lots of cool options for designing that.

How many rods did he need to store or display?
