DWSUDEKUM Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I know this was not done by scroll saw. It was however done completely without the use of a table saw as I do not own one. I used a 9" bandsaw, hand plane, a thicknesser and router. This cutting board was a commission piece for a lady. She wanted an 18 x 24 inch cutting board, so that is what I made her. The woods used are Maple and Sapel. I sanded it to 400 grit and then treated it to 4 coats of mineral oil ( butcher block oil ) and then a bees wax and butcher block oil mix for the final coating. The board ended up just a 32nd under 1 inch thick. amazingkevin, lawson56, bobscroll and 1 other 4 Quote
Ron Johnson Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Fabulous job done DW. Cutting board must be smooth as butter. I love the colour of Sapel. A wood I haven't had the pleasure of working with. Lady must be in her glory. amazingkevin 1 Quote
Clayton717 Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 looks great DW. Does the bees wax come as a liquid? I've only seen it as a block/ stick. Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted November 27, 2013 Author Report Posted November 27, 2013 looks great DW. Does the bees wax come as a liquid? I've only seen it as a block/ stick. Clayton it comes as a block or stick but if you take a small sauce pan and heat some mineral oil in it and then shave a bit of bees wax into the warmed mineral oil it will dissolve into to it put enough bees wax in and it becomes like a thick petroleum jelly when cooled. It will not spoil or go bad, and leaves your hands silky smooth hehe. Great for those toys that tots like to put in their mouths, cutting boards, bowl, etc, DW Quote
jrpeteo Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Beautiful cutting board, I like the contrasting woods. Never seen sapel. Pete Quote
amazingkevin Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Looking thru the forum I found the cutting board. I also noticed who posted it. I knew this was going to be a treat right from the start from you. Something different alright,BUT with out a table saw. Now that's perseverance ! Your signature is in every piece you do and this is no exception! good one ! Quote

Ron Johnson Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Bees wax is available in liquid Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted November 28, 2013 Author Report Posted November 28, 2013 Bees wax is available in liquid Better as a solid block. If its a liquid it probably has had things added to it as beeswax is a normal solid. DW Quote
