LarryEA Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 Thank you Jim Finn for your your instructions on doing inlays. This is a cheese board... The inlay is a Mahogany Panther and the board is Birdseye Maple. I think I found another area of scrolling I am going to enjoy. Birchbark, lawson56 and bobscroll 3 Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Very nicely done Larry. Similar to inlay is marquetry which is doing inlay but with veneer instead of thicker wood. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW Quote
Ron Johnson Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Hi Larry Looks excellent and well done. I enjoy doing inlay and plan on doing more once I complete other projects on my list. Quote
Barry5180 Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Great job on the inlay Larry. Can't wait to see more of your inlay work as you explore this area of scrolling. Barry Quote
Fish Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 That came out really good. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Jim Finn Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Good job on that. I see you have it pretty well figured out. I USUALLY have the grain on the inlaid image running the same way as the background wood, but not always. I have never done a cutting board. I should try that. Quote
amazingkevin Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Inlay is the magic of the wood workers skills. Before joining ssv i've seen wood work ,which was inlay ,but i didn't know at the time That really intreged me.how in the world did they fit the pieces so close and not see any gap.Well here you go LarryEa just did a demonstration of how to do it correctly and flawless.this will add $ to his great works he's producing already. He caught one so quick too.looks like the ceilings going to be the limit for him now.Great work larry. heppnerguy Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Larry, glad to see that you jumped feet first and gave this inlay stuff a shot. I was amazed that i could do it too. I think with all the good directions that Jim shared with us, makes one feel that he too might be able accomplish that which seems impossible. You did it. I too am going to do more of it come the first of the year. Nice job,, I like it a lot. Dick heppnerguy Quote
