LarryEA Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 Where or how? I need numbers and some letters for my cribbage board. The lettersare Start & Finish,,, Numbers 1 thru 9 with a bunch of 0's, 1's and 5's The size is about like the following: Start Finish 0 5 10 15 I could print it out but I DON"T want to glue them on. Pre printed peal offs would work, they are clear. Not like printed paper. Any ideas? Larry Quote

LarryEA Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 Tks Carl, I'll try the craft stores. First, I'll scan the net... Decals And Kevin, I do believe your idea using typewriter keys is a great. I'll check but the letters may be too big. Quote
oldhudson Posted February 25, 2014 Report Posted February 25, 2014 If you Google "using a laser printer to transfer images to wood" there are some vids that show the a process. I've never tried these because I have an ink jet printer and I've never gone to the local copy shop to purchase copies to try it. I know I saw a similar technique, on YouTube, that used wintergreen to transfer the image, again from a laser printer. When I made my Wooden Gear Clock, which was posted at SSV, I used this process to add numbers to the hour and minute faces. I used my pc to set the numbers I needed, reversing them with Paint, printing them out onto Jolee's Easy Image a product used to transfer (ink jet) computer art to fabric. The transfer is done with an iron. But it seemed to work okay on wood. I was not thrilled with the outcome but it does work. I wouldn't try any of these methods without testing them on scrap. Further I assume you'll want a finish on the cribbage board so I'd put that on the test pieces if you use an image transfer system. I'm anxious to see what you decide and how it comes out. Those are pretty small characters. Good luck. LarryEA 1 Quote
LarryEA Posted February 25, 2014 Author Report Posted February 25, 2014 Berry, Image transfers...First, thank you for the suggestion. It's a good suggestion. I used to do image transfers as one of my hobbies. Some of my log cabins (See my album) signs, menus, etc using Image trf. It is a practiced art. You never get it right the first few times. And there are too many individual transfers.. I used an emusifier(sp?) I will try hobby/craft shops then and then and then Larry Quote
Fay Prozora Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 I use the large shipping labels to print my patterns on so that might work for you. you can remove it from the wood with a product called "Undo" It is a product use to remove store labels and such and it works great for the shipping labels. I found Ward's old cribbage template in the shop the other day. I don't know how to play the game but it would be interesting to make some thing like that for kicks. Have a great night. Fay Quote
spirithorse Posted February 26, 2014 Report Posted February 26, 2014 If you have Hobby Lobby stores in Georgia, they have the decals in the scrap-booking section. Good luck and God Bless! Spirithorse Quote
LarryEA Posted February 26, 2014 Author Report Posted February 26, 2014 I think I know how to print my decals. One of two ways. Sheets for printing decals are sold in stores like Staples I could buy the sheets for that... expensive. More than I want to invest. Second choice is to see if some printer business will use the blank decal 'paper' and print me a dozen copies in the size I want. Sound good???????????? Larry Quote

In our area Fed Ex bought out and run the Kinko Copy Centers. I've found them pretty helpful. Our office supply type store also have copy centers like Office Max. But I'm guessing in Newark Valley, NY, which I've never heard of, (even though I spent a couple years upstate) you'll have to use an independent copy shop. But those places all use the same equipment. Just bring them your text on a thumb drive. Quote
LarryEA Posted February 27, 2014 Author Report Posted February 27, 2014 Berry, thanks for the conformation. I will be going to Kinko's most likely. Kinko's is in Vestal about 25 minutes from me. I am going to start out with a hard copy of all the letters and numbers I need. I'm hopeful they can work with that. Oh, Newark Valley and Vestal are both near Binghamton. Being that Binghamton is on RT 81 I would suppose you've been thru or by there. Again, thanks Larry Quote
