Travis Posted July 10, 2009 Report Posted July 10, 2009 Boy, it's been quiet here this week. I think a lot of folks are on vacation. This would be the perfect week to take it too with the long weekend and all. We were hoping to go to CA this year, but the budget didn't allow. So I guess I'll sit on my porch instead. Quote
Vector01 Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 With the economy as it is, a lot of people are staying close to home. Having back yard cookouts is a great way to have fun and get together with family and friends. Taking day trips with the kids to the beach or local museums is also a great way to get out. Quote
Barry5180 Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I can't speak for the rest of the country, but the weather here has been unbelievably mild. People are finding more and more things to do locally outdoors since it is inexpensive. The parks remind me of when I was a kid. You could always find families getting together at the county parks having Sunday picnics and such. Seems like more people are doing this again. I too have been incredibly busy between ghost hunting, moving, and work it's a wonder I have any free time to spend with the family. Barry Quote
Travis Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 The weather here has been in the extremes. It's either blazing hot, or crazy thunder storms. More thunderstorms than not. Very weird summer. My garden hasn't been growing real well this year. We need some hot, but not too hot, weather. I know my family and I can't afford a vacation this year. My wife's hours got cut in half and her job stability is iffy at best. So we've been staying around the house. We've been hitting a few local events. Last weekend, Thomas the Train came to the train depot and my son got to go see him and play with all of the activity centers. We have an annual zoo pass which we use too. Then we'll go fishing a few times as well. But there are a lot of other events too. Shakespeare In The Park, Symphony In The Park, farmer's markets, craft shows, the fair. Quote
Christina Posted July 18, 2009 Report Posted July 18, 2009 We've been having the same weather as you Travis. Miserably hot! We live too far away from everything to attend to many city activities. But we like to go fishing occassionally. There are loads of lakes and ponds and creeks around us and a couple Rivers. Unfortunately most are inaccessible to me...........in other words too much up and down hills. With my health problems it makes it difficult........especially in the heat. But a few of the ponds are pretty cool. We watch a lot of movies. My hubby likes his video games and I like my crafts lol. And I read alot.......too much to buy books! I read a book a day if it's a good series , so it would be waaaay to expensive to buy them! My garden is growing like crazy but we've no bees this year for some reason............I think the late spring freeze we had killed them off. Anyway, I've had to hand pollinate everything. So I'm not getting much in the way of fruits and veggies this year. I've got a dozen or so peppers and so far one lonely tomatoe and one lonely cucumber! But the plants are going nuts blooming. We should have so many we can't use them all. Aw well.......gardening hasn't worked well since we moved here so I shouldn't be surprised lol. Christina Quote
greasemonkeyredneck Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 We've had crazy weather lately here. It rains just about every day. Our garden has faired pretty well though. We haven't gotten any tomatoes this year. I think they were planted too late because of the weather. We wound up planting about a month later than normal this year. We've has peas, squash, okra, and cucumbers though. Actually, we've had so many cucumbers that we're pawning them off on a lot of people whether they want them or not. Anytime someone comes to visit we send a bag full with them. I even talked the newspaper guy into taking some. Quote
shadylady0447 Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 It has been very nice here so I have been spending most of my mornings doing some heavy duty yard stuff! Then off to the shop....I've been working on a new type of project.....will post pics in a couple of days. Quote
Christina Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Way cool Sue...........can't wait to see your new project. It's been thunderbooming here again...........we lost power yesterday because of lightening. Christina Quote
