Kepy Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 A very self-important college student attending a recent football game, took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his generou grew up in a different world, actually an almost primitive one,' the student said, loud enough for many of those nearby to hear. 'The young people of today grew up with television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon, our spaceships have visited Mars. We have nuclear energy, electric and hydrogen cars, computers with DSL, BPS, light-speed processing . And ... Pausing to take another drink of beer.... The Senior took advantage of the break in the student's litany and said, 'You're right, son. We didn't have those things when we were young,.. So we invented them. Now, you arrogant little shit, what are you doing for the next generation?' The applause was deafening. Docupton, Rob Roy, Phantom Scroller and 3 others 6 Quote

Ron Johnson Posted April 13, 2014 Report Posted April 13, 2014 Isn't it the truth Bob. Many, not all of the younger generation don't stop and think that if it wasn't for the senior generations they wouldn't be enjoying the freedom and all the benefits life has to offer them today. I would like to see some of these arrogant ones sent back in time, like fifty, sixty years and live life for one year the way it was then. I'm sure they would come back with a whole different attitude. amazingkevin, wombatie, Rob Roy and 2 others 5 Quote
Fay Prozora Posted April 13, 2014 Report Posted April 13, 2014 I agree, we had to make up our own games when we were kids as we had no tv until the mid 1950's as my folks could not afford one and then what we got was black and white and only a few channels to choose from. I had never seen a color t v until the 1960's. We listened to Gun Smoke on the radio on a Saturday night and such and that was our entertainment. No computers or any thing of that nature so yes I would like to see a youngster live like we did way back then and before then. Some times it was fun and other time a bore but we made it through those days when there was not much money and made our own toys so to speak as kids we did have a ball.... Growing up it was a bleep but got through those days. Good night all Fay Rob Roy, amazingkevin and Wilson's Woodworking 3 Quote

daddy_tindell Posted April 13, 2014 Report Posted April 13, 2014 My friends all think i am ruining my children because we dont have tv. we have a tv...it is used for watching an occasional movie. and we have a computer but it ia rarely used. shut off our cable because was too much on tv we didnt want the kids to see. AND it is a complete waste of time. my kids are learning how to entertain themselves and make up games. its funny and sad at same time when they are at play groups...they are the only ones that know how to play. the rest think playing is with an ipad. wombatie Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 When I first came to Australia I wanted to work with computers but you had to go to college and the dam thing filled a room, now they sit in the palm of your hand. We were the ones that got off our butts and made things invented things most of the now generation will not get out of bed unless they can get $100,000 a year. I often wonder what will happen to this world of ours left to the now generation. Marg Rob Roy 1 Quote
