  7. I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well Chris...........I hope you get better soon. Portraits of their choosing is a great idea for Christmas gifts...........I know you'll get them done and everyone will love them! Even though I know you live in Australia Marg, it's hard for me to imagine it being too cold to scroll lol...........it's so hot here! Your winter is our summer and that's hard to wrap my mind around lolol. Christina
  8. Yep Greasemonkey.........Mike is the best! I've had nothing but great experience with Mike. I had emailed Mike with questions about choosing blades and he was very kind to respond right away. When I first started scrolling I had absolutely no idea what I wanted and I ordered what I thought I needed lolol............Mike sent me an email telling me I was ordering the wrong blades for what I wanted to do and sent me the right ones along with samples of what I had originally ordered so I could see the difference! As a result of this great service and his kindness in responding to a newbie like myself.........not to mention such a great product............I've never ordered blades anywhere else and never will. You rarely find anyone that gives good old fashioned service anymore.........online or off. Thanks for letting everyone know what great service you've received from Mike! Christina
  9. Thanks Donnie and Linda........glad you like it. Christina
  10. Gorgeous clock Sue.........you always do the most beautiful work.........and patterns too! I love to see your new stuff......very inspiring. Yep I'm working on Christmas too. It'll be here before we know it lol. It just doesn't seem possible that this year is going sooo fast. I can't believe it's July already! Christina
  11. Hi and welcome George! You have joined just about the best possible group you could for learning to scroll!!! Everyone here is really super nice, very helpful and you just can't find a better place to learn techniques. I have no doubt that you will thoroughly enjoy your membership here............there is just loads to see and do. Thanks so much for introducing yourself..........we love to meet new friends. When you are ready we would love to see your work too. I'm a new scroller myself, although I've been making patterns for years now. I'm looking forward to getting to know you. Christina
  12. Thanks Grandpa.........glad you like it. Great tip thanks! I'll have to remember that for next time. Christina
  13. I got it done! I didn't have the stock to do a large box, so this is a trinket size box made from scrap. I used 1/4" mahogany for the lid and bottom, 1/4' aromatic cedar for the overlay on the lid and the butterfly body, 3/4" cherry for the center rings, and 1/8" maple for the butterfly wings, brass wire for the antennae. I had a heck of a time with the butterfly wings being sooooo tiny! I screwed them up twice and then on the third try I managed to get them cut........but slightly modified since the grain kept pulling me through one particular bridge. I use clear acrylic spray as a finish.........I still need to add a couple more coats but didn't want it too shiny to take pics of it. I think it would be much much better larger and with better contrasting woods. The cherry I have has dark and light both through it so it looks like I used two different woods for the center rings........it was one board. I think the overlay would have been prettier and showed better in a lighter wood and 1/8" instead of 1/4". And I decided 1/4" was too chunky for the butterfly wings and changed it to 1/8" instead. I think the wings would look awesome made from transparent acrylic too. But all in all...........this is the best piece I've cut so far and I'm proud of this one lololol! For my skill level it turned out great. This is only about the 4th piece I've done that hasn't turned into designer firewood. And I think this is slated to be a Christmas gift for my sister in law.........she's goofy for all things butterfly! Christina

  23. I would if I could Barry......in a heart beat lol. Yep I know they do. This is a predominately indian area and I'm sure I could get some cool photos in many places besides the cemeteries. We have access to some really old areas on some rivers and I'm sure we could probably get some good photos. I'll have to try it the next time I go fishing there.........I have to go at night since I'm allergic to the sun. Worth a try anyway. Christina
