I modified a singer sewing machine foot pedal .I took out the resistor cleaned ther contacts and maybe tweeked the points a little .Been working since 2004
From the looks of the blade tension it's set pretty high .I would speculate its seen some better days.Mine never go past 1.5 this one shown is past 3 on the numbers dial for tension.

thanks Dave my worst is gluing something and then stacking more glued projects on top off and upsetting the glued ones below everytime and not catch it till i deliver it.ugg!

run that vacuum out side and get a longer hose .a swimming pool vacuum hose works great 25' for$25 at the big box store
