  1. If you are talking about side to side movement in the blade holders with no tension, this is normal. The movement will go away when tension is applied. If you are talking about side to side movement with tension, then this can be corrected by adjusting the set screws in the blade holders so that the blade will be centered in the holders.
  2. I noticed dgman (Dan) mentioned giving private scroll saw lessons. Does anyone else do this and what about insurance? The quote I was given for adding to my homeowners policy was prohibitive for me.
  3. Try various rubber bands until you find one that will make a tight fit.
  4. I use FD polar blades for 3d cutting as there is no need for reverse blades since the objects comes from the middle of the wood with no worry about fuzzies on the bottom.
  5. I always keep a can of talcum powder on hand and sprinkle on the drum and it helps sleeve slide on.
  6. Use sharp drill bits at a high speed. Use a drill press if possible.
  7. If I need a really strong joint w/o clamping, I use 2 part epoxy. I also use a lot of Aileens.
  8. Thanks everyone. This may end up as one of a kind. My wife will not let it go.

A lamp I made from modified bowl patterns. Al W
  10. Ike, I sometimes have to remove the blade clamp screws and file the ends flat to remove the glaze that sometimes makes the blades slip.
  11. Where did you get the patterns and what scale are they?
  12. I have a MP3 player in my bib pocket with ear buds under my hearing protectors. Works great.
  13. Did you ever open a box of screws and find that half are for the top of the board and half for the bottom?
  14. My type 1 DW 788 is about 15 years old and needs a general overhaul that replaces worn parts and brings it to like new condition. The local Dewalt factory service center has qouted me a maximum price of $259 to perform this overhaul they call their GRC service. It could be less depending upon the actual parts replaced. Has anyone had this done and are you satisfied with the results? I am leary of spending half the price of a new one to fix my old saw although I would prefer my type 1 to a new type 2. The saw still runs great but is showing some signs of wear and needs a tune up. What do you think?
  15. Go to Mikesworkshop.com and there is a chart showing which drill bit to use for each size blade.
  16. I made knobs for my DW788 by filling soda bottle caps with epoxy and then setting the knobs into the epoxy. This made round knobs that are much easier on the old fingers.
