Glen, for portraits i charge 25 for a 1 person, 35 for 2. 45 for 3. and go on from there, but i usually give discounts to family and friends, i am part of a chatroom on aol, been involved with it for 9 yrs or so, made some good friends, and i email out pics of finished stuff, got quite a few orders. sold some boxes for 35.00 and up all depends on the detail

Mike, Wow, that is some awesome work, i really want to get into intarsia, but everytime i think about starting a simple pattern i get scared, i dunno why, looks too complicated i guess

great work there, i seen that you use a file to get rid of the fuzzies, have you ever tried using a propane torch 20-30 bucks at walmart small cannister like thing, i use one to get rid of the fuzzies, use it on the back since it wont be seen..

Thanks for the compliment, i am actually enjoying making boxes so i got one heart box almost done wood filler needs to dry, then finish, so ive started on another box, will post soon

this is an order i recieved yesterday, It is of a friends daughter. original pic and scroll pattern made by me, wood is 1/4 inch oak plywood, poly finish

Brett, thanks for the feed back, yeah the beeswax does a good job, dries oh i guess about an hour, trying to get things made up so we can have an grand opening in April, hoping to have quite a few pens made by then, and alot of scroll saw stuff, got a little room in my shop where i display everything, OK i am yapping too much, thanks again Brett

DW, thanks, yeah i left it out in the shop and didnt want to go back out to get the book, so when i went out i decided to get it and come post it.

OK yall the basket pattern came from the best of scroll saw woodworking and crafts magazine...creating wooden boxes on the scrollsaw

Pattern came from a scroll saw book i got from Barnes and Noble, when i go back out i will get the name of it
the basket is made of oak plywood stained in walnut,
Swan jewelry box made of maple, oak plywood, and mahogany finished with bees wax.

Dan, and Clayton thanks guys, Even tho i am reading some bad reviews on this lathe, i will keep with it, i will be ordering a part from thewoodenpost.com, talked to the guy yesterday, sent him all the info, said ill have to have a piece made. its a good price so ill be ordering that today.
but as soon as i can i will get a better lathe, craftsman, grizzly, etc
thanks again for all the replies, and i am still reading the manual why?? i dunno guess i m hoping to read something in it that i have missed the first 100 times..

Len, yeah i have read the manula atleast 2 dozen times, it is of no help, the guy i bought it from on ebay is giving me a head ache,
on the box it came in has cmt item # 10017 mcs 1000 wood lathe
been trying to find out who made the thing

ok all you turners out there, i just got my lathe and im like wth.... what i got is a mcs 1000, 1000mm , 40 inch 4 speed wood lathe. pic below, thing is the 7 mm pen mandrel i got with the pen kit from rockler, doesn't fit , the whole where the mandrel would go in at is too small. is their a adapter or collet that i need to buy??? help.. thanks
i will take more pics today when i go out to shop

first box is a filigree heart wall decor, that i just made into a box, pattern by alison tanner. base is pine, lid and bottom is oak plywood
the other box pattern by alison tanner, base is pine, stained in walnut backer and bottom is stained in walnut, fretwork is stained in honey maple
