  1. Thanks Kevin
  2. Can the DeWalt 788 be mounted to a woodworking bench or does it require that stand they sell? And does anyone know what it weights? I use a scroll saw (Delta) on and off. When not in use I store it in a crawl space. If I have a project I pull it out and mount it to my bench for the duration. Actually I'm pretty happy with mine but I thought if I found a used one - hummm. But I need a set of tires before the snow flies so maybe this spring.... Thankyou.
  3. I made a router table a couple years ago and picked up Formica at HD. But I had to purchase a whole sheet - 8 feet. I have lots left in the garage, I think I'll try some on the scroll saw.
  4. That's a pretty impressive dust collection system. It appears that your saw is in a fixed location. I don't use mine all the time, and certainly not as much, as many of the members here. So when I put mine into operation I use a box fan about 14" away and a hose from my shop dust collector on the other side. Works pretty well, it's easy to set up, and stores away when not in use. All important considerations in a smaller shop. (Posting my first pic - wish me luck)
  5. 1 & 2 Got it, thanks. On the User Guidlines it's clear you don't want folks posting advertisments but I assume that in a discussion a mention of a specific supplier or equipment or product is okay? Thanks again!
  6. As a new member I wondered a couple things: 1. I can't figure out how to add an avatar. 2. Can a poster go back and edit a post if there is an error? How? 3. Is there a thread that talks about general use/behavior on this form - I'd like to know the rules. Thank you.
  7. I wondered how members track the hours they put on equipment before performing maintenance. (A lot of manuals have maintenance requirements in hours of use.) I have a Delta 40-540 and wondered if folks with similar or identical scroll saws could review their maintenance schedual. I don't use my scroll saw very often but I'm really involved with a wooden gear clock and I starting to rack up some serious time on the scroll saw. I'm not a good maintenance person as I often put off that stuff. Thanks.
  8. Generally forums like new members to introduce themselves. A little knowledge can improve communications. So here goes. I live in St. Paul, I’m over 65 in a forced retirement situation after 47 years printing. I’ve been a hobby woodworker for many years. I have a small shop (12’ x 14’) in the basement. I usually cut sheet goods to rough size in the garage and do finishing there if the temp is 50 or more. My main tool is a Shopsmith (with jointer, belt sander, and band saw) that I purchased in 1982. I also have a Milwaukee miter saw, a Delta ‘lunch box’ planer, 3 routers, two circular saws, DowelMax, a jig saw and a Delta 16†variable speed scroll saw. I don’t specialize in any type of woodworking. I try to work on new things all the time. I’ve made a futon, lamps, turned pens, made all our kitchen cabinets, picture frames, desks, garden bench, potting bench – whatever. I’m here now because I found plans for a wooden gear clock in Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts magazine from a couple years ago. I thought there might be members who’ve completed the project or similar ones and can help me over any humps. In addition to woodworking I'm a weaver, enjoy reading books, follow F1 and Moto GP racing and I'm really looking forward to the day the mortgage is paid off!
