  1. Thanks everybody! The show went well. It was my first every show and I did $250 in sales (only spent $40 on the booth) and got an invite to another sale in Nov. at an elementary school's fall craft fair. It'll have more people come thru than this one did so we'll see how that goes. Kevin - I haven't see any of the boy or girl plaques in stores here. I've sold 1 of each, but that's it so far. I completely agree with the stamped or lasered items and that ours are unique and handmade and on good wood making them worth more. Good luck on your show! My feelings for the first show were as long as I made back my fees and a litle more I would have been happen. That being said I was thrilled with the outcome As far as an suggestion box, I actually bought a couple receipt books at Office Max and took orders.
  2. I've been popping in once in a while and catching up on posts, but was spending a lot of time getting ready for my first show. Here's a few of the projects I was working on
  3. Mine is def. the Olsen #3 Mach Series.
  4. HI Chance and welcome. I have the DW788 and love it. It's needing a tune up though after 12 years of scrolling on and off, but has been very reliable. You'll love your new purchase.
  5. That is absolutely amazing and detailed! Thank you for sharing.
  6. Those look really good!
  7. Looks Amazing.. I love her patterns.
  8. I have the DeWalt and love it! Don't forget to check places like Craigslist and maybe you can get lucky and find a good used one or a new on there.
  9. I wish they'd do that hear. I'd love to have some of that stuff!
  10. Welcome Crystal
  11. That looks good. I like the double image
  12. Susie, I don't know what Ace sells it for, but Sloan's Woodshop is another source you can use for comparison or if Ace is out Doug, Glad I could help and contribute
  13. I sell by word of mouth and give items out as gifts. My sales have really picked up in the last 6 months which is awesome. It's still a hobby to me, but I sell enough to pay for my hobby plus a little extra. We'll see how my first show goes next month LOL
  14. If I don't have any orders and I'm cutting just because I like to and slowly building up an inventory, I cut what I like I figure if it doesn't sell I'm happy to keep it and chances are if I liked it so will someone else. For the show I'm doing next month I'm trying to build an inventory in a hurry. Given my region I'm doing mostly wildlife and relgious themed stuff with of course some holiday themes mixed in. I'm doing a few more detailed items for orders taht I can stack cut and have extra for the show, but when cutting just for the show I'm doing low to medium detail so I can my prices fairly low and still make a profit. One thing I'm going to do is buy Sue Mey's cross that has "Faith, Hope, Love, Courage" in it along with the ribbon shape and make some pink backers. I think people will LOVE those for Christmas gifts for cancer survivors. She has another one that is for autism I plan to get. Not sure if that helped but just a couple of the ideas I'm going with for mine
  15. What thickness is that ply? If it's 1/8" that's high. You need to check out Sloan's Woodshop. Depending on the detail which effects cutting time, most of my stuff is $20 - $40.
  16. Hi Steven. My wife is a fellow buckeye..She's from the Toledo area Have you checked the Delta scrollsaws? They are really good and in the lower price range. I like the saws with a thumb screw to tighten on the blade versus having to use some kind of allen wrench. Welcome and I hope you enjoy your time here
  17. It is amazing to me you did that with a scrollsaw. Great job!
  18. Good to know Kepy and thanks for the update! Maybe it depends on the kind of acrylic being used? I've never tried the reverse tooth blades as I was warned against it the first time I cut it and have only used the Double Tooth blades.
  19. Great job on the portrait.
  20. Very nice work!
  21. Thank you Marg
  22. Y'all are very welcome. Glad I could contribute and help.
  23. I actually worked at Sloan's for 6 years We didn't get a chance to go to the fair this year but usually go at least 1 day per year. We live about 5 minutes from the fairgrounds Travis, Thanks for the welcome. I'm already reading lots of good info
  24. Hunter, you got that right on Sue having the crosses down. I have have a long wish list of her patterns I am going to eventually collect. I have a 3 or 4 of hers I've bought but haven't cut yet. I'm doing my first show Sept 25th so they should be cut and showing up on here soon Kevin, thanks again for the compliments. I have a purty yeller saw I actally got it second hand about 11 years ago for $250. Someone had bought a second one for his wife and she didn't really get into it like they thought she would so I got lucky He sold the older one and kept the newer one. It was a HUGE upgrade from my crappy Ryobi I had bought originally.
