  1. I would have loved to get involved in this, but without a saw I am sitting in a boat without any oars. Let me know if there's some other way I can assist the effort. Chance
  2. Thank you all for making me feel right at home. I look forward to spending time with all of you and helping out where I can. Chance
  3. What type of scroll blade is your work horse. The blade you use for most or general cutting. Do you use one blade for the outlines / big area cuts and then change blades when you move inside to finer cuts? Where do you purchase your blades from? Is there a chart somewhere that describes what scrollsaw blades are best for what type of work or lumber? What about lubes or oils for cutting? Do you use them and what types do you perfer? Thanks in advance for any information you can share. Trying to work smarter not harder. Chance

  5. I am one of the new guys around here, but I found the following 2 links that I enjoyed reviewing before I ordered my 788. These are trouble threads from other scrollers, whom have worked out cures to some of the known issues. http://www.scrollsaws.com/SawReviews/DewltTuneUp.htm http://www.toolpartsdirect.com/cgi-bin/ ... 788_TYPE_1 As best I can tell from what I have read above and from google, the 788 units where not having many issues until they moved their MFG outfit from Canada to Asia. The first runs units coming from Asia had many quality control challanges reported. I have since read that many of those have been corrected, but that did little for the units that already shipped to the stores in 2007 and 2009. All and all, I still decided to purchase the 788 even after I confirmed it was MFG'd in Asia. ( I was told in 2010) When compaired to other units within the same price range, it did not appear to have many more complaints and it's still rated higher than all of the competitors units at the same price point. I would think that every model has it's own challanges during first run cycles. I just hope that they have fixed as many of the known ones as possibile before they built mine. hope this helps a bit, Chance
  6. Nice job all the way around. I see a sliding Crown Royal bottle holder in my near future....... now I just need to find someone to donate a unopened bottle of Crown Royal Question, is there anything that you would have done different now that you can look back at what you built? Chance
  7. Ok all, time to pick whats most important to you. Besides your family and saw that is. I am setting up an new work shop and would like to know whats in your shop that you could not live without? What is the item or items that you find yourselve using over and over again? Whats the item that you would think everyone who owned a scroll saw should have?\ I do not have a bunch of money and do not want to waste what I have on something that may not be as usful as I may think it is. Hence, I am asking all of you to help me with suggestions set up my shop. Thank you all in advance for your time and attention in this matter. Chance P.S photos or links of the items you suggest would be great if possible.
  8. Anyone know of a good site to obtain mini LED lighting from? Have a project in mind, but need to locate some mini LED's. Battery powered would be perferred as long as they are double A or smaller. (I will have Apx 2.5 inch X 1.5 x 1.5 inch base space where I can store the unit) Not sure if this is the right place to post this... still new and learning the ropes. Thanks in advance Chance
  9. Hi all, Been about 15 or so years since I scrolled out anything with my old 16 inch scroll saw and I figured it was about time I get back into the hobby late last year. Needless to say, my 20+ year old Craftsman had seen much better days. Even though I still owned the unit, it seemed some smaller hands had been at play and being bent, broken and somewhat unrecognizable would be an understatement. So, I have been saving all of my pennies since January 2009 and literally just took the plunge and purchased a DeWalt DW788PK 20-inch. I think (really hope) I found a pretty good deal considering it came with the 3 legged stand, work light, some blades and free shipping. Now all I can do is read scrolling forums, learn all I have missed out upon and wait for the postman to deliver my new pasttime machine. If anyone has any tips and tricks about the dewalt units, please let me know. I have never owned one before. I will say that since my departure from the hobby, the internet has exploded with information and training videos on U-tube and other sites. I have been shaking my head at how easy it seems to be to gather informatiuon and patterns now compaired to before. Back then if I couldn't figure it out, it either didn't get done or never got done the way I imagined it should. A forum of Scrollers..... who would have ever thunk it in the mid 80's. Chance
