yeah, i knew it was an old thread and i had resubscribed to the mag awhile back and then i got a paypal refund from the magazine sub service i use so i wondered why they did that so i did some searching and came across this thread and found out they went belly up. i bumped it so others would see they are out of business before they try to subscribe. i still cant believe they are done? it was such a great mag but must not have had enough subscribers? is their any other scrolling mags besides Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts?

i cant believe they went belly up, i loved that magazine and i just found out as the subscription site i used refunded my paypal money but only after about five weeks. *** do they still have the mag listed on their site? at least i got my money back but im really bummed i wont get any more issues. all the ones i have should be worth more now?

does anyone here know where i can buy single drill bits for a good price? i have several different bits missing out of two of my organizer boxes and i want to replace them and i wont buy a complete assortment for only a few bits. any help you can give will be much appreciated! thx

i had the same exact problem the bearing in the little counterweight arm was loose and the arm would slide out and start making noise so i would tap it back in and it would be fine. i ordered the entire linkage system for like $120 shipped and it took care of the problem. the linkage came with instructions which were fairly good but not great but it was easy enough to figure out how to tear down the upper arm. you might not need the whole linkage but i had an older ex-21 and the linkage was different and the new setup was much better built so im glad i went with it, but you might get away with just ordered the bearing and counterweight? good luck

i thought the saw came with the stand and light but it is for the saw only. do you guys think its still worth it?

i know the Dewalt type 1 is the better of the two saws but just how much better is it? i have a chance to get a type 2 that is in great condition for two bills and im wondering if its worth it or not? please let me know your thoughts & suggestions. thanks

i always use the sawtooth hangers as it gives me a little leeway if im off to one side or the other. how do you get the D-rings 'weight centered' if you have a lopsided project? i would think putting in a nail a little to see how it balances but it would be trial & error till you get it just right or is their some type of trick to doing it?

yes, it is 'springy' and needs to be pushed down before clamping the bottom blade.

mike, this is what i was talking about earlier.

when i put in a new blade i use a dead blow hammer because of the weight and i hook the hammer over the top blade arm to keep it pushed down and then i clamp the bottom blade as i have to use left hand to keep blade pushed in and right hand tightens the knob. sounds wild but i should take a picture of it to show what i mean.

i too have been having clamping problems with my ex-21 but only with the bottom clamp. i have what you call i guess the grub screw? i call it a set screw but i have mine put in place with some blue loc-tite (non-permanent) so it doesnt move around. but when i go to tighten the knob it pushes the blade right out. i have to use a little flat blade screw driver and push/hold the blade in and tighten the knob at the same time and that works. i had posted this problem on another forum and others mentioned to swap the knobs around to see if that helps and another mentioned that if you over tighten it can push out the sides of the clamp! i thought i would try and sand the little spinner part on the end of the knob to see if that would help rough it up to grip the blade better but nope. i will order a new clamp, knob and set screws next week to see if that helps? i wish i would have kept my dewalt saw as it was lightening fast changing blades, the ex-21 takes to long to swap out blades but i really love how smooth and quiet it runs.

i had a nice a/c unit for a year and had a friend finally help install it this summer when we had the two months of 90+ heat i just wish i had it on a timer that would turn on a few hours before i head out to work.

i need your help everyone, i have a chance to buy an early 90's Excalibur EX-II scroll saw and i dont know anything about them so im hoping you all do? please give me the pros and cons of it, does it run smooth? fast & easy blade changes? pinless i think? 3 groove pulley for different speeds? are parts still available? please give me any and all info thanks
