  1. Kevin, this was a fun project story to read this morning. Gotta chuckle at your demise, thinking you had aluminum. Stainless is some of the most brutal stuff to cut. I admire your persistance, the piece turned out nice.
  2. I am all over that idea, I can finish a project much faster, that means more time on the saw and less time scratching my head.Cool
  3. Wow man, the more I see of this style of art, the more I want to try it. You are truely a good artist on your saw. Thank you for sharing..
  4. Real nice out come. The finish compliments the subject. {desert like }.
  5. Hey Nico, Welcome to a friendly Village. Would love to chat sometime about Romanian and Italys hard woods that may not be available here in the U.S.
  6. A couple of days mulling this one over left me with the desision of....A POW-MIA dedication of large perportions. Say, 4 pieces as large as my saw throat will allow, to combine as one whole. Light walnut and Maple would please me as well for materials.
  7. I have been back to scrolling for a month now. There sure was some rusty spots, and some reminders that I encountered along the way. The first one was " stay on the line man, thats what they are there for, to follow". I have spent a lot of hours reading SSV exclusively and think you all are Great and dedicated Artisans. All of the advise and shared ideas are the inspiration I draw from. Hats off to all and thank you Muleskinner- Shadylady, and Eddy P. for the patterns. I am going to cut out the " NEVER'' as my first presentable piece of finished art. Is it ok to post the artists name who created the pattern on the back of my finished work? The oohs and ahhs should go to the rightfull creator. Thanks, Guys and Gals......Mark
  8. Sorry to hear that a " Loved One " is ill in your shop. after viewing all of the work you have posted, that saw has truely earned a place in time. Should maybe put a portfolio of photos with the saw of your creations, mount the saw on a shrine. Maybe Craftsman would sponser you a new saw. Hope you can get the Ex.
  9. Sides, backs, faces, and bottoms of older drawers from dressers, desks and cradenzas. Havent found much use for the skeleton of these items, but the drawers if made in america have some very nice pieces of native hardwoods. Scandanavian made have very nice teak, forign oak and maple..
  10. Thank you all for the warm welcome. I need not look any further for the inspiration and wisdom that I am reading on this forum. My shop is not heated. 18 degrees outside. So why not read through the arcives of SSV. MUCH RESPECT
  11. Back at you from Colorado. You said it, " jump in" and do it. The excitement that grows with completing a piece of art from start to stop is just reward. About that snow, I am at the mile high level and see the snow heading this way. Good reason to stay tucked in the shop for a couple of days. I am new to this forum, and am drawing a lot of inspiration from its members. It has been better than many books I could have read on or about inspiration to our crafts.
  12. I like this idea a lot. My knees won't take standing any more. The Idea of shimming up the back side of your saw to an angle that suits your comfort zone takes away my worry of "how will I be Able to see my work if I get to comfy", well there I go.. Great Idea, and I intend on a test drive soon.
  13. Hey, wow, it is cool to say hello to Artists in other reaches of this world. Thank you for the welcome, it was recieved as you intended. I am off to check out your gallery now. MUCH RESPECT....montgomery in colorado
  14. Good day fellow Artisans. My insperation for scroll saw and serious fret work came from a friend of my Dads. He produced some fine, fine work. I became only fair in comparison in my 5 years or so as an artist, and then passed my saw on to my Pops only to return recently. My options for the few $$ I had were few, knowing I still had to purchase blades, bits, and patterns. I got way lucky when I was offered a Delta 40-540, like new for a third of its cost. Came with a foot switch and after market light. It is a true pleasure to have such a smooth machine with the blade change system that is making re-entering this medium of art very easy for me, and much less frustrating than my old Craftsman 1986 model would have proved to be. I was a furniture mover for 23 years. Nuff said. I need some income via a trade that allows me to sit while working. This is it. I am looking forward to listening and learning from all of you beginning and accomplished Artisans in the Fret / Scroll world. I will spend some time reading your forum and getting aquanted...THANK YOU AND HELLO FROM BOULDER COUNTY COLORADO.
