  1. I have some 1/4" Maple that I want to use but the darn stuff has a slight cup to it. It's 6" wide. Any thoughts on how I can flatten it out? My first thought is to soak it for about a week then put weights on it while it dries. I am hoping theres a better way? Thanks...................Chris
  2. Hey Kendra, Welcome aboard...........
  3. This is a doll bench, dont remember where I got the pattern, but I made one for my Mother who collects dolls and when my daughter saw it she wanted one for her Barbie's. So I reduced the pattern by 50%. The bench is about 9 inches from are to arm, and fits a Barbie just right.
  4. Wow! and here I thought I was the only one who had trouble finding time to hit the shop for some quality scrolling time. For me it's mostly work that gets in the way. You would thing that there would be plenty of time left over, but working 2nd shift kills pretty much the entire day. Glad to know I am not the only one with this problem !!!!!
  5. Tried to for a while. Rented a booth at a craft mall. Had scrolled portraits (Earnhardt,Presley,Some hisorical figures) along with some trivits, orniments, doll funiture. Nothing sold. Stuck it out for a year.So now I only do what I enjoy along with an occisional request piece. But I give it all away, no charge. More enjoyable for me and then theres no time line either!!!!
  6. I am thinking that I was applying the pattern too quickly after spraying the glue on it. I am going to give painters tape a try as well as the glue on the pattern to wood, just waiting longer. Thanks to everyone for the ideas.
  7. I figure this question has been asked many, many times, and I myself have used many methods. All of them that involved attaching a paper pattern to the work piece always left a glue residue after removing wich required sanding. I am not a fan of the sanding especially when working with 1/8 ply. I have used carbon paper to transfer the pattern, but find this too time consuming with intricate patterns. Soooooo! What methods do ya'll use?
  8. Very cool!!! Very nice work too. What angle did you set the saw at for the cuts?
  9. Just wondering if there were any Scrollsaw/Woodworking shows/gatherings this summer either in or near MIchigan? Thnaks.........Chris
  10. Very Cool, Nice Subject,
  11. Got it to work, not sure why the other pic wouldnt take, but this one is one of my favorites, My daughter at age 8 learning how to scroll, dont get much better than that!!!!
  12. Right now I got the pic to 60 x 43 pixels and is 142 KB, I dont know what they mena by 14.65 KiB, never heard of KiB before
  13. OK ! I have been trying for days to add a pic to my profile. I got the pic down to the right size (64 pixels) but it is telling me the file is too big. I notice that they say 14.65 KiB, what exactly does that mean? Thanks....Chris
  14. I get all my wood supplies from Johnson's Workbench in Charlotte Michigan (http://theworkbench.com/) I prefer then because of the superior wood selection (everything from standard oak and maple to all kinds of exotics) , and will do special cuts, usally at no cost.
  15. Books by Gary Browning are a great source also......
  16. The stain was pretty simple. Took some craft paint, like you can get at Wal-Mart. Diluted it in water, then in a baking dish put the piece in face down for about 20 minutes. More an experment than anything else, but it turned out better than I figured.
  17. Clock should look pretty goood, mine was cut from 1/8 inch, might want something thicker fro a clock.
  18. Got this pattern out of a Scrolling book. Took longer than I thought, but quite satisfying. I tried to stain the wood for a different look. seemed to work, might have to experment a little more with that.
  19. Not off hand, I have heard that there is a WoodCrafters in Saginaw, going to check it out sometime in the future, I will post when I do.
  20. The big 3 from the end of the Civil War. Lincoln came from a $5 bill, Grant and Lee I got from one of the scrollsaw mags, dont remember which one, but the pattern was from Gary Browning (I believe thats the correct spelling) All are 8 x 10.
  21. Hey Ya'll, been scrilling for about 5 years now with a 2 year break (real ugly divorce) but have returned to the hobby I love and I managed to keep my Delta P-20 (YEA!!!) I mostly do portraits, designing my own patterns from most anything. The Lincoln portrait I actually took off a $5 bill, took abit to get it upto 8 x 10 then cleaned up to cut. Chris Hawkins
