  1. It was a first attempt and so was cut from some cheap pine. I spray painted the pieces and then used a clear varnish on them. I dont think i would so it the same way next though. I will use some hard wood to reduce the amount of sanding and have been told that painting the pieces with acrylic paint might be easier. I am however very pleased with the results and everybody that i have shown think it looks great which obviously i am very pleased about. I havent made a board, I have bought one as I need it to be ready for christmas which I am cross about but i just dont have the time to do it. Thanks for the nice comments
  2. So here it is. My first finished chess set. Let me know what you think.
  3. I like it. I have wanted to do a portrait for a while now but could not decide who to do. I am going to steal your idea completely and hope it turns out aswel as yours.
  4. Hi Brian I totally agree about cutting the sets from some nice wood and staining. The problem is that it was the first time i have done any 3d scrolling so I did it using some cheap bits of wood i had in my garage. Before I knew it I had cut out lots of pieces and find this very addictive. It seems quite easy to get good results. Then I came across the problem of finishing only to find that I dont like the look of the cheap wood so I decided to paint it. Next time if I make another I will make it from some better stock and stain it. Thanks for your reply
  5. Just added my link. Next i will do some images
  6. Hello Cutting out two chess sets. One for my son and one for my nephew. although I have cut this out from cheap pine which is creating me alot of sanding i am really pleased with it which is why i ended up with two. Please let me know what you think of it and ask any questions you like. Thanks (I just tried adding images but i did not work, help please) or you can follow my link
  7. Hi Yes I found the same thing. I did buy some from wood work craft supplies but i bought enough that i didnt have to pay for p+p. I will be buying from the states when they run out in the future. I dont know why they are so expensive over here or why they can cost £6 for delivery. I find it very annoying
