  1. Hello, I made a portrait of my son. What do you guys think of it? I'm practicing making patterns and have the feeling that I'm getting better at it. The only thing I'm not completely satisfied with is that I made the hair with too much details. I think that could be less. I also post the original picture so you can see how it original looks
  2. Thank you for all the compliments. I did cost a lot of time, altough the cutting didn't take that long. Most of the time I spent figuring out how to build it together. The main problem is that there shouldn't be any disbalance, because the spindle should turn very easily. I got that, but my problem is that it has to turn by the warmth from the candles. And I believe that my wings are a little to heavy, because it only turns with a little help. Then, after a while, it stops. But I keep on trying.
  3. Here is a picture of the last thing I made in 2014. The Pattern is from Volker Arnold, but I changed a few things. At the moment it turns not yet as good as I wanted it to, but I think that the wings are a little to heavy. I'll change it in the next time, but I wanted to show it to you now. It was a lot of work, but I'm proud of it.
  4. I have a few goals for this year. The first is that I want try my luck on sawing coins. It is something I always wanted to try but never came to it. I now ordered magnifying glasses and I want to make a jig for it. And then I can start... The second goal is trying to make some money by making portraits. I believe there are many people who want to have a portrait from someone who passed away. I want to make an appointment with someone from a company that takes care of funerals. Maybe they can help me in to it. Just see what this year brings..
  5. Like DW said, the gorilla works better from a distance. But then it looks fine to me. The portrait from the Dalai Lama also looks very good. Nice work.
  6. Hello Scroll mouse, welcome to the forum. I am from the Netherlands, that makes us practically neighbours. I read you are searching for 3D animal patterns. You can get those for free on a dutch website. I just don't know if it's allowed to write the internetadress here. I'll send you a personal message. Richard.
  7. This was my first attempt to make a lightarch, an old traditional way of christmasdecoration in East-Germany. I made it a couple of years ago and we used it every year until I made a new one. Now I'm trying to sell it and am curious what it will bring me. But first I wanted to show it to you all.
  8. When you open the programm there is a sheet in the middle of your screen. When you make something in Inkscape you should place it on that sheet. You can work anywhere you want but your design should be placed on this sheet befor you canb print it. I think that is what went wrong. I hope you understand my explanation. When it is not completely clear I'm certain that someone else can help you further. Good luck with it.
  9. Wooden shoes, tulips and a windmill: as a dutchman I'm very pleased with the pattern. And with the piece you made of it. I bet the weddingcouple will be very pleased as well. Good job!!
  10. I don't excactly know what's new and what's old but on his site ( http://va-holzkunst.de ) I found novelties 2013. I think that means that there aren't novelties from 2014 (yet) If you like that style, you should take a look on this site: http://www.ac-holzkunst.de/ The problem for you is probably that the site is in German, but with google translate it'll work. I already bought a few patterns there and have no complaints. Fast delivery and good service. But I live in the Netherlands, that's easy. I don't know if he delivers in the states. Good luck with it. Richard
  11. Maybe I understand it wrong but if you had an apple you don't have it anymore. If someone gives you another you have one apple. But as I said, maybe I don't understand it right. Richard
  12. You're right, I should have said 41 years young. I guess I got a little confused by the words "getting older " I won't say it again (when I still remember this next year )
  13. Thanks to all of you. I had a great day and lost the zero. (41 years old now)
  14. I have an older scroll saw from Proxxon, the DSH/E. It is a machine that runs good and silent and I am very content with it. The system to changes blades requires an hex wrench for the below screw, the one on top you can turn by hand. My saw has variable speed and allthough I don't use it very often, I'm glad I have it. The Proxxon DS 460 has a few changes, but not every change is an improvement. You always need a tool to (un)thighten the screws from the bladeholders and I don't think that works fine when you do a lot of inner cuts. Also the speed isn't variable anymore. The only advantage from this machine compared to mine is the depth: 16" and 18". In the Netherlands the saw costs about 385 Euro, that is about 535 US Dollar. That isn't cheap, but here in the Netherlands you don't have as many choice as in America. I don't know where Dennis lives, but that could be a problem. As said I'm completely satisfied with the quality of my saw and I think the quality of the 460 will be fine as well. But I don't know whether i'd buy this saw or not.
  15. Very nice, like it very much. I don't know the site you're talking about, but will take a look. Richard
  16. These are two trees I made from a pattern from Sue Mey. I changed them a little bit, normally you can hang them on the wall. Now they can stand alone or together, the feet fit together. Please come with your comments. Richard
  17. Congratulations.!!! Enjoy the feeling as much as you can, it all goes so fast. Before you know it she grows older. ( And you get older too )
  18. You should be grateful to your grandkids. It's because of them you came to this good idea. I like it! Richard
  19. Great job. It looks very good.
  20. Hello Jim, Like Rob Roy I turn the can upside down and spray till there only comes gas out of it. The Nozzle is than clean and you can put the can away. I've never had problems this way. Once I seem to have forgotten it and the nozzle had clogged up. I managed to clean the nozzle with a small needle and it worked fine after that. Richard
  21. Hi Roly, I know what you mean when you say you hate them, I've tried them once or twice and it didn't work out as I wanted. But I will try them again, because I think that when other people can do it, I can do it too. Nevertheless, the sign looks good. Keep practicing!!
  22. I once made a portrait of my kids and glued a piece of rope all around the edges. I don't have a picture of it to show, but can you imagine what I mean?
  23. Nice work, looks very good. You say it's your first, do you intend to make more lighthouses?
  24. Depends on the time I have and the project I'm doing. When I do have the time I sometimes scroll for 1- 1 1/2 hour, but most of the time it's shorter. It also depends on the details; when the project has a lot of small details, you need a lot af concentration. Then I prefer more breaks, so that I don't make mistakes. I always scroll standing, because I don't have a chair or something that would work. I also think that I can handle the larger projects better when I'm standing.
  25. Hello Hans, welcome to the forum. I read in another thread you are dutch too? You said you've lived in Groningen. That's near my hometown (Hoogezand) I also went to school in Groningen. Because of my job I live in Venlo now, that's more in the south of the Netherlands. Funny to see that there are dutch people all around the world and that they "meet" eachother because of their hobbies. Richard
