    I can't fathom living somewhere that you have no access to what's available in other countries. Why is that? If you are willing to pay the shipping and import fees, why shouldn't you have all the options available. I'm very curious.

    Thanks for your input. I accidently came across it on Pinterest and had to do some searching to find the actual pattern. I found the designer on Thingyverse. Here is a pic of his name and contact info.

    Thanks for your comment. What I meant to say was, the BB plywood I used wasn't the best quality. I'm going to make another one out of a better grade of BB. What I had laying around was not the best and it had been water stained at one time. I guess that's why I got it for $5 for the whole sheet. Most of it is good.

    That is my all-time favorite book and TV series. I've read the book 3 times and watched the series more times than I can recall. I want to be cremated so I'll have to find a copy in the library wherever I end up. I have read everything that Michael Connelly has written too. I love Bosch!

    Ya know, I read a lot. I've read thousands of books. Mostly all fiction. There are some that stand out in my memory and I might read them more than once. But there are others that I wish I had not wasted the time. My point is, not everything is going to be great or even good. But, I will still buy a book and read it and take my chances. Same goes with magazines. Not all good but most are somewhat interesting. That's all I ask. I'm really happy that we have at least this magazine as so many others have gone down the drain. I can afford the $50 every two years.

    How heavy of a coat of spray adhesive do you use? I'm trying to envision using a paper towel with spray glue and I must admit, it sort of eludes me. I'll have to give it a try. Doesn't the paper towel have a lot of lint to it?

    I was just surfing through Pinterest and came across a spiral bowl. And any sort of bowl gets my attention. I clicked on the picture and had to do some searching to find the pattern. It's done by a person outside of the U.S. I can't recall where but they were on "Thingyverse.com" a maker site.

    I ran across a laser pattern and decided to give it a try. This is the prototype. Many lessons learned. The next one will be better. I used 5/16" b/bb that I had. Not the best stuff. Anyway, here it is.

    It's all in knowing what you're doing. I've never seen a vacuum press like that. I wonder how it seals around the edges.

    You might also look into Behr finishes. I made a gate for my daughter's home and finished it with Behr clear and it has lasted quite well. Also, look at deck finishes. There is one, I think it may be Johnson's that works well.

    I just renewed my subscription for 2 more years. I enjoy it even though I may not get something great out of each issue. There is no way that every issue is going to have something just for me. I really love just reading and seeing what others are doing/making and sometimes it gives me an idea. I'll keep on subscribing and I might even send in something I've made if I ever get good enough. Heck, I still subscribe to our newspaper on a monthly basis and it has gotten down to the point that the poor delivery guy has to add gravel to the bag to make heavy enough to throw. LOL>

    I contacted them a couple of years ago and suggested they make a portal for paid subscribers to download the patterns that are in the magazines so as to be able to print a pattern without destroying the enclosed pattern sheet. They blew me off saying "we aren't able to do that but thank you for your input". My response, " why"? I could do it and I'm old and not nearly as tech saavy as their inhouse team. Bosh!!!

    The optimal viewing distance is the distance where you are sitting and looking at the work and it's very clear. Anything else is not optimal. Just sayin........

    Rolf, tell us more about the Xyron machine. I'm not familiar with them. Are they like the Cricut?

    That's the guy who wrote the book that I've been telling about. He knows his stuff.

    A very light coating of adhesive and let it dry to almost dry. Then apply it and brush it out with a credit card. That really burnishes it to the material, no matter what you are using. I never bond to bare wood myself though. I don't like the idea of the adhesive getting onto the wood any more than necessary.

    I'm nowhere near as experienced as most of you but what I have found is, after reading the hint by someone a long while back, if you spray the pattern very lightly with whatever adhesive you are using, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, it becomes almost dry like contact cement. THEN apply your pattern to either bare wood, packing tape, blue tape or shelf liner. It will still very well and when it comes time to remove it, use a heat gun. It works great for me and if there is a spot that doesn't come right off, use a dab of mineral spirits. Well, mineral spirits if you're outside of California. Here in the sunshine state, we use turpentine/paint thinner. It smells so good too.,

    I'm glad you are happy. The Hegner is a great saw and will outlive you, more than likely. I'm in the hunt for another one. I figured that I can spend as high as $250 for an older one that needs the updates. They will come to about $250 with shipping. There's one out there with my name on it.

    Also, make sure the quick clamp is held snug in it's cradle. It's not supposed to move or rock like the regular clamps. There has been a discussion of this recently.

    Thanks, a great informative article. I sure wish he had finished the youtube series that he started. He left many people wanting more but it never came.

    2 screw eyes and braided picture wire. Strong but still adjustable. Here in earthquake country that works great. We get a shaker and just go through the house straightening everything.
