Thanks everyone for the kind words. I have finished the clock. In case you wanted to know. I used 5 different woods. Walnut, maple, oak, aspen and bloodwood. The chimney is bloodwood. I had a piece left over from an Intarsia project and decided to use it for the chimney. I also carved the grout lines for the bricks. This was an option in the plans. The 3 pics I added are the finished clock, the chimney and the elves inside the workshop swinging on the pendulum. This clock was a lot of fun to build. It will be leaving here shortly as it is a gift for a dear friend who is very ill and only has about 6 months to live. I hope this clock will bring a smile to his face. I had a retail store and a custom sports apparel business online for 12 years and got into trouble once with a cease and desist order not to make a copyright item and use it as a give away. Marshall Pretty sure it's illegal to make a copyright sports logo and try and sell it unless you have permission/license to do it. That is the "Arkansas Razorbacks" logo right? They are really nice but don't want to see you get in trouble. Ben

As good as it gets

Travis Spent about 3 hours on the new EX-21 today. Sitting makes a big difference for me. Great saw so far with no issues.

For cutting 2x4's I would use #5 blades minimum. #7 or 9 will also work well. I used to make large children's banks out of 2x4x10''s and always used # 5 Olson PGT and larger blades. I'm sure the Flying Dutchman blades will work just as good. Update-Sorry, meant to say I used 2" X 10" for childrens banks. These were large banks with 3/4" side pieces and clear acrylic side plates. Some were 24" long.

I agree, Flying Dutchman blades are very fine blades and Mike is a big help. I also have used Olson #5 PGT blades for my Intarsia, and also used Pegus blades with very good results. It's always best to try various blades and manufacturers until you find the ones you like best. Do stay away from the big box store blades.

How Long Do You Sit Behind The Scroll Saw? Dunno, I have been scrollin' since the mid 1960's and have never sat down....stand only....until now! Just got my NEW Excalibur EX-21 Thursday. I have it all set up and raring to go. It will be the first scroll saw I can actually sit down to do some scrollin'. My existing RBI 220VS is not suited to sit behind, I have stood behind it since 1994. That's a lot of standing. All the cheapie other scroll saws before the RBI I stood also. Going to get started today and work on my 2 fretwork clocks. I'm in my 70's now and standing for long periods is not much fun. I have the front legs a little lower than the back on the Excalibur stand and it makes seeing my cut lines better, couldn't do that with the RBI unless I bought a new stand which just became available. Besides, I wanted a new toy anyway. I'm still planning on using the RBI, but I will keep it setup for outside cuts only which I use the 5 PGT blade or a FD to do. I probably will spend more time on the EX-21 now since I can sit. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to sittin' and scrollin'. Ben

Working on 2 fretwork clocks. One is a Christmas present, the other is for us. One is the Santa's Workshop clock from The Art Factory. The other is the Black Forest clock from the Winfield Collection. Working on each and hope to have them done by the end of November or before. Ben
