  1. Horses and men are carved and fire engine is cut on the scroll saw. I no longer have a lathe so the boiler and pressure tank were made by cutting several circular pieces, stacking them up and gluing them together. Pattern by Billy J Smith. Next will be a ladder truck and then a hose truck.
  2. Great job. Must have take some time to finish it up.
  3. Very nice portrait. Congrats on the 2nd place.
  4. Sounds like a lot of interest. What a privilege to have a gallery showing.
  5. I started carving the animals in January...so around 8 or 9 months. The carving took a lot longer than the actual construction of the carousel. I took a break from carving around April, built the carousel, then finished the carving while on our 2 1/2 month summer RV trip to CO (We live in HOT southern AZ). Since the photo I've added a flag on the top, a couple benches and a "love tub", that kids would get it and spin in it circles.
  6. I actually used three different plans and then improvised in combining them as well as included ideas from other miniature carousel builders.
  7. There is a miniature carousel maker that sells rough outs. Each animal is cut on a band saw in around 10 parts...thighs, lower legs, body, tail, head, neck, etc. It saves a lot of band saw time but I totally carved each part, glued them together and painted them. From basswood.
  8. Wire support worked for awhile but mine kept getting looser and looser. I pulled some of the pieces off but then others cracked. Finally just had to order a new line.
  9. Finally have the Carousel almost finished. This shows the scroll saw work that surrounds the different parts. I carved and painted all 12 animals (8 go up and down) and rebuilt much of the original construction to include the scroll saw work. The picture is sort of blurry because I had to have it rotating to have the lights come on. Only you guys will appreciate the 16 panels and 24 ornamental pieces (mirror surrounds and animals) around the top. LOL
  10. I agree this is probably the easiest program to do it in and you sure will get better photos than scanning, copying, etc.
  11. I love Cheddar. It's one of my many addictions. Or do you mean Velveeta? I sort of agree with you on that. Or maybe you opened the package at the wrapping instead of the cheese?
  12. Love them. I have so much sympathy for families with an autistic child. The disease is so misunderstood. Those families need all the help they can get.
  13. Wow! Never heard of this before. I went to site you showed and was amazed. I doubt I will try it but it might be great fun... good job.
  14. Great job. I'm going to have to make some of those.
  15. Nice job. Teak must be really hard on the planner blades and the scrolls saw blades. You might as well try some Ironwood! LOL
  16. Great find and nice job!
  17. No ideas as it works very fast for me on Chrome or Opera.
  18. Thanks, all, for the kind words. It has been a fun BIG project that has kept me out of trouble for six months or so. My wife says I've been obsessed.
  19. Real close. Have to make a permanent tent top and finish carving and painting three animals. Another month probably.
  20. It will. I have the music on my computer and a will put a bluetooth speaker in the tent top.
  21. Here is the latest on my carousel. You can now see the scroll saw work I've been immersed in for awhile. Eight sides, cut from walnut plywood. The plywood is walnut skin over mdf. Boy is that stuff dusty and hard on blades. Horses all carved from basswood. The top is temporary...now made of poster board but will be cloth. Second picture is fuzzy because lights only come on when the carousel is rotating.
  22. Great job. Mission style is my favorite style, anyway, so you couldn't go wrong and did right...a beautiful job. I'll bet Jessica (and you) are very proud.
  23. I totally agree with everything you have said. I would be with you in posting it but this site has a decidedly conservative bent and it would not be worth it. It sort of, in a very subjective way, reminds me of the long posts about atheistic sayings where some people started expressing their own religious beliefs and felt post should be in line with those beliefs. There are other places you can post the cutting; this is not the place to shake up traditional beliefs.
