  1. It's an old Ryobi that's on loan to me for a few months. Ducky I will take a look tonight and see if the length was the issue. Ike I don't think it was slipping, but I will play with it some more and see if I missed something. Thanks for all the great ideas!
  2. Those are awesome! One day I will make something like that for my niece.
  3. It hasn't even been a week and here I come running for help! So this weekend I attempted to replace the pin end blade with a plain end blade and it was a disaster. My first attempt ended up with the blade flexing in crazy, not safe directions. I have no idea how it didn't snap in half. I fiddled with it again and then when I turned it on it didn't move, at all. I gave up, wanting to get started on my project and went back to the pin end blade and it worked just fine. Now I know most of you have fancy, way more user-friendly machines than I do, but I was wondering if anyone might know some trick to making the switch between blades. Or is there some common issue that others have dealth with regarding this? Or, as I am afraid, is this the natue of low end machines and the solution is to eventually invest in better equipment? Thanks for any input! Amanda
  4. You guys have me cracking up over here! Josh that is too funny, I'm never one to turn down free tools! And yes pinterest is dangerous, I coud live ten lifetimes and still not complete all the things i've pinned. Marg, I am all about sticking together, someone has to keep the crazy men in line! Larry, I'm glad it's always breakfast somewhere because I sure as heck don't get out of bed in time for it in my time zone! :P
  5. Thank you everyone for all the kind words! You guys have done it now, you are stuck with me for the long haul! I will be making a trip to get some better, harder woods in the next couple of days and I can't wait. My sister keeps sending me pictures of toys I need to make for my niece, and we all know how destructive kids can be. That pine won't cut it!
  6. Hello! I am new to the scroll saw world and looking for resources and inspiration as I learn my new hobby. I started as a scrapbooker and sewer and I have found myself moving into the world of wood now thanks to Pinterest and a 1 year old niece. I have my father in law's old ryobi sitting in my garage on long term loan. It's not the prettiest or fanciest machine, but it's been good to me as I learn. I started over the weekend by cutting a board in half, and then went to town making my first creation out of a scrap pine board. It was great fun and surprisingly similar to sewing! Just watch the needle, erm, I mean saw blade, and follow the line! I've got so many projects I want to create and I'm excited to learn from those with lots of experience. Thanks for having me! Amanda
