  1. Nice looking projects, it looks like you are a natural.
  2. Welcome West, you couldn't have found a better bunch of people to hang out with.
  3. Thank you for the comments and suggestions. When I was looking at blades to order, the FD-UR seemed to be a good all around choice. I didn't realize they were as aggressive as they are. Maybe they are better suited for thicker or harder wood. The wood that I got at Ace Hardware was inexpensive compared to the lumber yards selection. As I get better I'm going to have to order from Sloans or one of the other supplier. I did get a dozen FD-P #3's with my blade order. How would these compare to the FD-PS blades?
  4. The last couple of projects that I've made were cut out of inexpensive 1/4" plywood from Ace Hardware. The outside layers are clear and have a nice grain, but they are fairly soft. I'm using FD ultra reverse #3 and #5 blades and I'm having quite a bit of chipping along the bottom edge and the top edge of the cut also. My question is, would spraying the plywood with a polyurethane prior to attaching the pattern reduce or eliminate the chipping? Or is there a substrate that might work? I've tried the blue painters tape on this wood and it seemed to pull the wood fibers when i removed it (even when I used mineral spirits). Maybe this wood is just prone to this problem. I'm interested to hear you guys's thoughts. Thank, Chad
  5. Wamsutter is a hole. most of the people from Wyoming don't even like going there. Hope your wrist gets better, your pod gets filled and moved and you can Scroll on.
  6. Nice work Kevin. I have to say I'm Jealous. You guy's are wearing shorts and the sun's shining. It's overcast and 5 degrees out with snow on the ground here.
  7. Looks awesome. Very nice fit and finish.
  8. That is seriously cool. I had questions for you but Kevin already covered them all. Again that is really nice.
  9. Welcome to the Village Malcolm. You have joined in with a great bunch of People here. They will certainly help you out if they can. Chad P.S. That's a great looking Donald, heppnerguy.
  10. No problem
  11. Newfie, I added the pattern to the library. Feel free to use it as you see fit.
  12. Very nice Kevin. Maybe it's been covered before, but what do you use to glue the picture to the wood?
  13. This stuff was on the shelf next to the klean brand odorless mineral spirits (the clear type). I was thinking it wouldn't have as much of a smell and could be used in the house without everyone complaining. Bad choice, I'll use it up somehow.
  14. I found the image on the dreamstime.com website in the free images area. Then I ran it through inkscape program following Travis's videos to turn it into a cuttable pattern. Which by the way are freaking awesome. Thank you Travis. I hope I didn't violate any copyrights by using this image.
  15. Those look awesome. What did you use for the colored backing?
  16. Here's a different angle showing the two layers. This is actually the second one that I made. It will be a Christmas present for our daughter that lives in Colorado.
  17. The picture doesn't show it, but it is a segmentation piece. I stack cut the two layers along the outside. Separated them and then cut the inside of the top overlay. The ear, eye and nose pieces are floaters that were glued down. Everything was painted then glued together. I used a brush this time, maybe next time I'll try spray paint. The moose head was one piece with just the skull portion being painted. Thanks everyone for taking a look and for the suggestions.
  18. Guess it will be used to clean brushes and what ever. It really took me by surprise when I poured it out and seen it was milky.
  19. Here's a moose skull silhouette that I cut out of 1/8" masonite scrap with a bit of white paint added to make it look like bone. I personally am not a broncos fan, but my wife is. This was cut out of 1/4" ace hardware plywood and the painted with acrylic. She thought it was cool as heck. Painting this was a pain in the neck. If anyone has any tips to make it easier I'm all ears.
  20. Does anyone have any experience using this stuff? Thought I would give it a try it was a dollar less per quart than the regular. I didn't realize until I got home and opened it that it was kind of milky. The reason I got it was to remove patterns after sawing and cleaning oil base stain out of brushes. Who Knows maybe it will work fine.
  21. Just got my order of Flying Dutchman's in the mail yesterday. So far the only blade I have tried is the #3 ultra reverse. Wow these suckers are sharp and it was very easy to follow the lines on the pattern. There wasn't any drift or wondering like there was with the Olson #5 reverse blades. Just from what Iv'e seen with the one blade so far I'm sold. Definitely going to order more in the future
  22. I'm glad I ran across this thread. I was also wondering about getting a Delta or a Dewalt. From what I have read it looks like you cant go wrong with either. Once I'm able to get a pile of penny's saved up I think I will be ordering a Delta 40-695. For now the old craftsman 16" will have to do.
  23. Wow, thank you everyone for the welcome. LarryEA I have a Craftsman 16" that I bought over ten years ago. Probably not the best saw out there, but the price new was right. Hopefully I can save up some money and get something better like a Dewalt. Bob, I have already perused the pattern library and found a couple I would like to cut. Thanks again Guy's.
  24. Thank you Steve. I'm working on a couple of things right now and will try to figure out how to post pictures of them when I'm done.
  25. I joined awhile back and I'm impressed by the amount of help and information available here. I hope to get some projects done and maybe post some pictures to see what you Guy's think. Chad
