    Delta 40-694

I've had a 40-694 for 2 weeks now. This table on saw is huge, makes for a lot of area to support a project. It seems to operate with very little vibration, with one exception. When the speed is set in the 3-5 range it starts to make some sort of a speed related harmonic noise. I guess it doesn't really vibrate more but, there is some increased noise. Maybe someone here has an idea as to what might be the cause. This saw also cut more aggressively than my old craftsman. I may look into correcting the problem like other people have with the Dewalt 788. One more thing, the bottom blade clamp is bending the blade towards the cutting edge of the blade. If someone has a fix for this I would love to here it. All in all I really like this saw it is a huge improvement over the old craftsman 16". Once the few issues are resolved this will be an awesome upper end entry level saw.
  2. I really like the way that looks. Could you tell us what font you used and where to get it? I might have to try that finish mixture in the future.
  3. Sure I woke up to -24F this morning. It's 3:00pm and still -2F.
  4. Thank you for looking. I made it for a friend, I'll let him decide on a background color. Almost any color would look good depending on the situation.
  5. Here is the sugar skull pattern provided by Neptune.
  6. The maiden looks really nice. What blade did you use?
  7. I've been staining both sides because the stain ends up running to the bottom side, so I brush the back just to even it up. Do you guy's stain both sides or just the front?
  8. I have looked at that web site and they do have a lot of nice looking wood. The projects that i was cutting out were about ten inches wide so I thought 1 x 12 pine would work best for me. I still think it will work well I just need to use some tape in the future. Ocoochhardwoods will be a place I'll be ordering from in the future.
  9. I have been having trouble with the last couple of projects that I have made out of pine. When I apply the stain the back side turns out looking better than the front (or display side). I thinking the problem that I'm having is caused from not having a substrate between the wood and the pattern. The spray adhesive I'm using is soaking into the wood and causing a barrier that won't let the stain penetrate. I've tried wiping repeatedly with mineral spirits and denatured alcohol to remove the glue residue and it didn't help. Looks like I'll have to start using painters tape or something else under the pattern. Have any of you Guy's noticed the same problem? What are your thoughts?

    A Rose

Go right ahead. It isn't my pattern, I found it on the scrollsawer forum.

    A Rose

This one is going to be sent to my wife's aunt in Oregon. I gave her one of the Wyoming bucking horse and rider magnets that I make, and was showing her some of other things that I've cut. When she asked if I had ever done a Rose. After looking around for a pattern this is the one that I liked the most. She doesn't know that she is getting it. Hope she likes it.
  12. Looks really nice. A piece like that would have taken me longer than 5 or 6 hours for sure.

    A Rose

I looked at a lot of patterns and chose this one, the rest of them were to busy for me. I guess sometimes less is more. Or in this case it was for me. Thanks again for looking!

    A Rose

I was thinking about trying to use some pink paper for the petals and green for the leaves and stem.
  15. You have cut some really nice pieces.

Thank you all for the compliments. Would gloss or satin poly look better? What do you guys think?

    A Rose

Here is a rose that I cut using 1/8" BB. The pattern was from another scroll sawing forum by Wade Smith (Wade's Woodwerks). I really liked the way it looked and how simple it is.
  18. Wow!
  19. I have an older craftsman (maybe 13 years). The problem that I started having was that the blade clamp screw ends were marred from use, causing the blade to move in the clamp as I was tightening it in place. To fix this I filled the end of the clamp screws flat. This helped a lot with putting a blade in. Maybe your blades weren't completely straight from one end to the other causing strain on the ends under tension. And if you eventually buy some of the higher quallity blades you will notice right away just how much sharper they are. With the FD and Olsen blades if you have to push to get them to cut chances are they need to be replaced. Good Luck!
  20. I bit the bullet and built a stand for my saw. This allowed me to unbolt the saw from the bench in the garage and move it to the basement. I put it in my little work room and so far the dust doesn't seem to be a problem. It's been said before and I will say it again, it sure is nice to have the heat.
  21. Welcome. I joined both sites when I started scrolling seriously, and always end up coming here. The other site has good information as you know, but it just feels better here. Chad
  22. Welcome to Scroll Saw Village. Looks like you are of to a great start!
  23. Your projects look awesome, I really like this kind of art. You done a great job of not having the holes show. The way that you did the paint looks really clean, I can still see the grain of the wood. If you don't mind telling us what kind of paint did you use and how did you apply it? Thanks for sharing.
  24. If I was to use my saw in the basement, how badly does the dust get all over every thing?
  25. That looks really neat, looks like it would take a lot of work.
