  1. A rather stately project. Well done!
  2. Top is American Hickory and base is Purple Heart.
  3. I was asked if I could make an inlay top for another braided basket. I stack cut the leaves from the top and bottom. Not advocating anything here, but MD is an RX legal state and, well I said sure.
  4. That sounds like it was fun, Kevin. BTW, the train and smoke were all one piece of oak. I just used a darker stain on the smoke to both darken it and to take advantage of the grain.
  5. Wow!
  6. Very impressive!
  7. I did this Steve Good pattern a couple of weeks ago but forgot to post it.This train runs on a regular schedule these days! 1” Red Oak, engine stained with Golden Oak, steam brushed with Ebony.
  8. Great job! That basket is a winner. I never could’ve gotten started without Steve. I try to support him as I can by buying his offerings and by linking to Amazon through his site.
  9. Yes, 1/8 on the Celtic pieces. I used 1/4 on one a couple of weeks ago and didn’t like it as much. The basket was Natural Danish on both the BB and Paduck, (It actually made the plys an asset) and then 4 thin coats of Deft Satin.
  10. Jeez, and my friends tell me that I have patience. That would drive me to drink (more).
  11. I decided to stack cut 4 of each of Alex Fox’s Celtic patterns. I threw most of the scrap cuts in a pile and was kind of blown away by how much there was. Anyway, I cut all of the layers, oiled Layer 1 in Natural Danish, Layer 2 in Dark Walnut Danish, and left Layer 3 raw. I also did Steve Good’s basket that several others have posted pics of theirs. I did mine out of BB and used African Paduck for the top and bottom.
  12. Thanks for the review and feedback. I rebuilt my DW a few months ago, packed it with synthetic grease, and put Pegas clamps on it and it is a much better machine than it was when it was new. That said, I am still considering upgrading to a Pegas, mainly because I do a fair amount of relief cuts and want to do a lot more.
  13. I better get busy knocking a couple out for tomorrow!
  14. I have a green eye of jealousy. I’m going to have to start selling some of the stuff I’ve got piling up.
  15. Great job! Fiona's stuff isn't that easy to start with and to cut it out of Purple Heart was admirable and the end result is very impressive!. I did her Viking out of 1" Red Oak with a relief cut and it was challenging. I'm thinking of maybe doing one more inspired by her work, though not sure if I'll use another of her patterns.
  16. I did the same thing a couple of months ago. I used synthetic grease. I also switched to Pegas blade clamps. The overall difference was dramatic. It was like I had a much finer piece of equipment. If I had known how much improvement the synthetic grease made I would’ve done it long ago. Dewalt picked a weird thing to cut corners on with the factory grease used.
  17. Nice work, and congrats on your new saw. I would highly recommend upgrading to the Pegas blade clamps. The difference in ease of clamping, and even further reduction in vibration is a game changer.

    Good One!
  19. Thank you, everyone or your kind comments. I have decided to keep the glass. I actually was offered a pretty high price for it, though my wife isn’t sure that she wants to part with it yet.
  20. Incredible!
  21. Me neither, but she has inspired me to new ideas. I have concluded that we might doodle with a pencil. Fiona doodles with a scrollsaw blade.
  22. I’ll put it in a window tomorrow. That glass is a very rich piece.
  23. The pattern was purchased from Fiona Kingdon. Her forte is not pattern making as she doesn’t use patterns, nor does she draw them. She has 5 available on her site, but they are not like patterns that I have ever used before. I believe she adapts them from her completed work by photocopying the work itself. You must be careful as sometimes you can get left hanging with little or no bridging if you don’t plan your cuts carefully. I made changes along the way. The relief cut and glass backing was my feeble attempt to give it at least a little individuality. Funny you should offer the blue glass suggestion as I was/am betwixt and between blue, green or maybe a combo of them both with a blue sky and the green below the tree line. I felt that there was too much empty space to not fill the background.
  24. This really tickles me, Tommydogs! Mrs. Kingdon has got us thinking, eh?
  25. The first shot is just the wood. It is 1” thick Red Oak done with a relief cut around the perimeter. Today I cut a piece of stained glass and mounted it in back with the cartoon recessed in the relief area. I haven’t set everything permanent yet. Looking for critique from you all.
