Nice work, Denny! I made quite a few baskets for Christmas presents. I filled them with scrolled ornaments, but I also was not sure what they were good for. My wife took two and filled then with potpourri. My beach loving next door neighbor filled hers with seashells. Just a couple of ideas. Here’s two with potpourri, one of Alex Fox’s and one of Steve Good’s.

I stack cut when I did the George Harrison and kept one for myself. I decided to add the OM symbol onto his shirt.I think it adds to the overall project.

I did a review on the Dewalt DW788.Two weeks ago I tore mine down due to excess noise and vibration, repacked all of the bearings with synthetic grease and between that and converting to the Pegas clamps the saw now seems better than it was when it was new. If I were looking to buy a new saw I would want to learn more about the new Pegas that is advertised in Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts. Here is my review of the DW788: I have had my DW 788 for 3 years. I got it new for a good price complete with stand and standard light. It is an okay saw, but I have a few criticisms: For starters if you are a serious scroller you must add a foot controlled switch and a spring lifter. I feel these should be standard items. After I installed the foot switch the first thing I did was cover the factory switch with tape because if you don’t dust gets in it and the switch will fail prematurely. The light comes with an incandescent bulb that shorts out from vibration. Do yourself a favor and buy a LED fan type bulb. Next, the blade holders are awkward and the little tips that grip the blade don’t last very long before the blade starts slipping.Pegas makes great replacement clamps that are easier to deal with, but they are $75. Again, Dewalt should put them on standard. Now, this week the saw got very noisy. After watching a great video regarding this issue from a highly acclaimed scrollsaw repairman I have learned that the factory bearings are not the best, but worse yet, the grease used by the factory is a low quality grease that is just good enough to get a serious user through the warranty at best. So now I must tear the whole thing down, replace some of the bearings and repack the rest with synthetic grease. I am a serious scroller, and I scroll daily. I will rebuild the saw, and continue to use it. I do portraits with hundreds of cuts, and with the modifications I’ve made, and top quality blades, the Dewalt does a good job. It’s a huge step up from saws that sell for less than $200. But for the price, I don’t think one should have to put so much into it to make it really good.

I had no idea until you asked. Harrison seemed to have it on several album covers.I just said, “Sure” when asked if I could make the symbol. It seems that it is a very important symbolic part of the mantra of Hinduism . It is called an OM, or sometimes an AUM.

I just finished these for a friend that is making a coffee table for his wife as a surprise. The “legs” will be wide boards on each end and he is going to frame these in with backboards. I had also made an OM symbol last week with African Paduck inlay and he wants that to inbed into the table top. The inlay came out pretty good, but finish sanding it was a messy job because the redness of the Paduck would bleed into the BB. Thank you Fish for the George Harrison pattern.

The 2nd one is from Steve Good. They were for my grandsons. The 3rd one was for my policeman son in law. The 4th one is from a George Harrison album cover and the picture is 90 degrees off axis, but it is BB inlaid with Paduck. The last is a 2” Kokopelli figure and sun cut relief style out of one piece of BB, stained, then mounted to a 2nd piece.

Super! Mario Brothers always reminded me of real life with the wife in that you work your tail off filling the bucket with tokens from doing nice deeds, only to have the whole bucket dumped out for one little screwup!

That’s high on the wow factor!

Sensational! I thought about doing this when I saw it from Steve, but I have got a bit too much on my plate right now.

I still order my FD from Mike’s. My last order came in 3 days. My last Pegas order I used D&D and got my blades in about 3 or 4 days. I have ordered from Bear twice and both times it took over two weeks. (I prefer FD UZ Ultra Reverse and FD standard Reverse for most of my cutting). I like dealing with Mike’s.

Thanks, Alex.You being the designer can identify how much more difficult it is to cut it 25% smaller than your suggested size. I was too lazy to figure how to resize it onto two pages from my printer. This was actually the fourth pattern of yours that I have shrunk for the same reason.I kind of like the smaller size and have gotten used to cutting them like that.

I made it even harder on myself. Alex suggests making it 12”x12” but I just made it as large as I could on a standard printer letter size paper- 9” 1/8” square.

Alex Fox’s Wolves. 366 cuts. BB oiled, mounted on 1” Poplar stained with True Black. Alex says on his pattern page that this one is rated as intermediate level. I may not ever reach his advanced level. I found this one to be pretty challenging.

I have a selection of spiral blades. They remind me of a bunch of lures in my tackle box. I rarely use them, though I do occasionally. I have played around with them, but I really just prefer flat blades, primarily scroll reverse, mostly #3’s, and if truth be told, I like Flying Dutchman over Pegas, have little use for Olson, and I work with a wide variety of hardwoods and Baltic Birch. Just my preference. That said, work with what you feel comfortable with, which is my advice with lures, too. If you have a negative attitude about green plastic worms then you will get worse results than your results with your favorite black worm because you fish It differently and less patiently. Same with scrollsaw’s blades.

Alex, Seriously, I thank you so very much for your patterns. They make me look better than I am. You are the real artist. I am just a lowly craftsman who gets along with his tools.

I built a deck for someone out of Ipe a few years back. Every screw and nail had to be pre-drilled. The client wanted it stained against our advice. The near $100 per gallon stain, plus a pre-staintook okay, but that stuff doesn’t rot and will develop a beautiful natural patina if left to age. We had to custom make rails for a non-standard angle for the stairs and it was a challenge. It made for a pretty deck!
