  2. Very nice, Dick !! A golf lovers dream Very well done..
  3. Thanks Dave !! I'll have to give GIMP a shot then and see if I like it.. I enjoy using Inkscape (since I found out about it from this site, I've actually used Inkscape for other projects besides scrolling - like as a planning / designing tool for my fireplace install, etc..) but I'll have to try GIMP and compare them.. I have to say, it may have taken you many hours to learn it but you got it down pat ! I really like the way you've been doing portraits. They come out great..
  4. Hey, whatever gets the job done, Kevin.. If it works, that's all that counts !!
  5. You my friend have the patience of a Saint !! Is this a repeat customer of yours who has done this to you in the past ? I echo the comments - hope you got paid good for your hard work and aggravation....
  6. Way to go, Kris ! That's a beauty !!!!
  7. AWESOME, Dave Great job. Question.. You use both Inkscape and GIMP, it seems.. Which do you prefer ? Is one easier to use than the other ? I haven't tried GIMP yet but would like to try my hand at doing portraits as well..
  8. Very nice, Monti !! Clean cut, very readable - script is tough. Keep 'em coming
  9. No "down time" for Roly !! I think him and Kevin are in a contest to see who puts out more projects Very nicely done, Roly.. Thanks for sharing
  10. Great use of scraps !! Soon you'll be making something out of the saw dust

  12. Yes it is
  13. You're a good man, Kevin.. BTW - When are you going to open up your own DW788 store ?
  14. When my Dad passed 2 years ago, my Niece (and God Daughter) and her husband "bought" my Dad's house from my Sister (her Mom) and me. My Dad lived there for over 40 years and it needed a facelift. The house recently got new siding, a new roof, new windows, front steps, deck, etc... I wanted to do something for them to hang that welcomes family and friends to their house. I came up with the following "welcome" sign. It's their last name along the side, the "WELCOME" is individual letters, wired together through small eyelets on both sides of each letter. Overall size is 24" x 8" x 1/2" Red Oak with coats of BLO and VAR poly. I haven't given it to them yet as I just finished it up today. I want to wrap it and give it to them as a present once the house reno is done. My Wife loved the way it came out so - I'll be making another one soon for us !! My Dad would be proud that I made that and didn't use any duct tape (he had a penchant for using duct tape for most things that need to be fixed.. Hahahaha....) Thanks for looking One pic of the sign upright the other, laying flat on a table..
  15. Thanks Charley !! I just "google mapped" it and yes, it's not very far from me.. Wow !! I'll have to take a ride over there just to check it out anyway.. Never knew that was there.. Pass it going to the Stormville Flea Market.. Appreciate the tip.. Will let you know when I go and what I find
  16. A Rembrandt !! Nice job, Dick..Nothing wrong with that..
  17. Nice looking project, Ike !
  18. Welcome Jim Fairly new myself, started this past December.. You will find this Community invaluable, as I have.. You have questions - these folks have the answers !! I can't speak to the saw but blades, word of advice.. DO NOT BUY blades at the big box stores.. They will aggravate you.. As Larry mentioned, Wooden Teddy Bear has a great selection.. Personally, I like the FD (Flying Dutchmen) blades.. I "think" many of the folks here also use FD blades (either reverse, ultra-reverse, spirals, etc..) Most important, HAVE FUN scrolling !! Post some of your work when you have it done too.. We'll keep you honest
  19. You find time to read magazines too ? On top of all the scrolling you do How do you do it
  20. Larry. That's just aweful.. Awefully Good !!! Nice job and that backer really makes it stand out.. Thanks for sharing..
  21. Hi SSV.. Thank you all for your suggestions and great input. I haven't quite made up my mind yet as to whether or not do plywood or hardwood.. But in the meantime, I did take Paul (aka Scrappile) up on his suggestion to check out "mainehardwood" over at Ebay.. (Thanks Paul..) Although I"m not sure if I'll use it with this project or not, I did just place an order for 16 pieces (10 cherry, 6 red oak) of 1/4" x 5" x 24" for less than $70. with free shipping (16 pieces in a bundle, you can mix and match between 4 types of wood to make up the 16) . If my math is correct, that's less than $ 4.50 a board. The few times I did order wood online, I ordered from "scrolleronline.com" and for 1 piece of cherry, 1/4" x 8" x 24", it was $ 15.49 plus shipping. That's the price of 4 boards from the merchant on Ebay.. And if I don't use it for this specific project, at least I can stock up on some wood !! So I sure learned alot from this post including how to save $$ on wood Whatever I decide to do, I'll be sure to post the final piece here on SSV.. This Village is awesome
  22. Thanks Bill.. I see your point about the "longevity" of plywood so that's good to know but yeah, the "finish" is one of the things I'm worried about on the plywood.. I"m going to check out the names mentioned in Paul's response just to see if it's possible.. I'm thinking I should just bite the bullet and try something I've never done before and start gluing !! After all, it is for my daughter (and future little ones down the road) so what's a little sweat equity ! Plus it'll be a learning experience
  23. Thank you, Paul !! I'll definitely check these folks out.. Appreciate the input !!
  24. I kinda think you're right, Steve Glue I have.. Clamps, not to many (yet) but I see a trip to Lowes or Home Depot in the very near future !!
  25. Yeah.. Kinda figured but I thought I would ask anyway...
