  1. Even better, I'll add it right here for free. :-) NOTE: Be sure to connect the "N" to the main piece. The pattern shows a slight gap. I never intended to share the pattern, so I didn't make it perfect/pretty. NC.pdf
  2. So... Long story short, a tourist shop in Wilmington, the "big city" near me wants to stock some of my puzzles. She mentioned that anything with WILMINGTON or NORTH CAROLINA are very popular, so I called Harvey and have him putting WILMINGTON in the body of the swimming mermaid for me and in the meantime I showed the owner of the shop this simple thing I've made a couple of times. I didn't keep it in stock at my shows since it wasn't a puzzle although it had proven to be somewhat popular. I simply found a detailed outline of my state, found a font I liked and laid it out so that it would stand up straight and level. Then I used a wood burner to put a heart over our location. I had done it for a couple of other nearby states but never displayed or tried to promote them. But if you do craft events, you may want to consider doing it for your home state. Quick and simple. She loved it, so I just made 6 of them to deliver to her tomorrow.
  3. Thanks everyone. I appreciate the assistance and the offers. Ray has offered to make one for my friend. If Ray doesn't share an image of the finished product, I will.
  4. When I click on the link it opens to a picture of a BEATLES themed vinyl record at the very top. Two different ones. There are lots and lots of picture beneath them, but I'm interested in what is showing at the top. Is that not what you're seeing?
  5. I have a friend that is a Beatles fanatic and is looking to buy a couple of things for herself and her kids as Christmas gifts and as I'm looking for patterns to cut for her, I came across these two pieces that I think she would absolutely love, but I've never cut vinyl records before and don't have time to practice and learn so I wondered if anyone would be interested in a couple of projects? If so, please let me know how much you'd charge per item and I can let her know. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/36732553194087559/ https://www.pinterest.com/pin/417145984212159380/ Thanks! Iggy
  6. I mounted mine to a small piece of wood and have it sitting on a concrete block. You could just slap together a wood box/riser and get the same effect.
  7. I enjoy cutting the outlines of the animals, and the individual pieces. I dislike the detail inside cutting of closed loop letters, eyes and kerf cuts for fur. Sometimes I'll do that middle step for a stack of 10 of puzzles just so I can enjoy the puzzle piece cutting for a few hours without having to do the annoying parts. I don't mind doing the layout... I challenge myself to squeeze as many patterns onto a 6ft board as I can.
  8. Yeah, never any problem making a profit. Usually only have to sell 2 puzzles to clear costs. But I went in expecting to sell 100 puzzles over the weekend so it was a major letdown. Can't hit a homerun every time at bat.
  9. The dog show I've been looking forward to for a few months finally arrived, and... it was a TOTAL BUST. What a waste of a day. I won't be going back for day 2 after packing up 2 hours early today after selling 11 puzzles. My worst event ever. The owners/handlers of the dogs came in for their event piece, then left. At least now I don't have to buy an RV and start traveling with the dog shows. :-) I have 3 weeks off before my next event and I'm looking forward to the down time. I have plenty to make for the RibFest BBQ event, but it's all at a leisurely pace.
  10. I use Olson Mach Speed #3 for my puzzles cut from 3/4" poplar. When I need to use a bigger blade, I like the Olson Precision Ground Tooth (#5 and #7)
  11. Beautiful work. Very nice.
  12. That'll be $500 please.
  13. Speaking of GoldenDoodle... I had Harvey do me a custom one with the same body but it just says DOODLE. If you want it, email me. I'll give it to you since you bought the others.
  14. This one isn't much more fun to cut... another mop head...
  15. Attention all dog puzzle cutters... if you ever get asked if you can make a TIBETAN... SAY NO!!!! Someone is going to own a one-of-a-kind... cuz I ain't makin' another one of these!!!! Take a close look at the fur cuts just in the head and you'll see why.
  16. The DeWalt until I'm through the event season. I hope/plan to use the Hawk during the winter restocking months to get used to it and to put it to a solid test.
  17. Bunch of snooty, fancy, furry dogs... the last 10 I have to cut are the furriest and most annoying to make. Not sure I'll want to do any more dog shows.... unless I sell 100 puzzles, then I'll reconsider.
  18. I'll have about 25 new breeds on hand for the dog show this weekend. Here are a few done so far...
  19. Just got back from the monthly meeting of the Kennel Club that is hosting the show this weekend. There were maybe 8 members there... I sold 3 puzzles on the spot. LOL I took some examples to show and needless to say they were well received. I'll be one of only about 3 "vendors" at the show. This is going to be a very interesting event. Not really sure what to expect. :-)
  20. Dog show weekend coming up. First time doing the event and while I'd expect it to be a great one, I have no idea what reality will be. But, last week I found a list of the 110 breeds and 600 dogs participating in the show and found about 30 breeds that I didn't already have in my herd. So, I had Harvey send me the patterns and I started cuttin'... Got a dozen drying on the rack right now. A couple of them are just different variations such as a long haired Dachshund and a long haired Chihuahua. One doesn't seem to belong... :-) The Kennel Club that is putting on the show happens to be having their monthly meeting this evening and I'm going to attend so that I can meet the organizer of the event. I'm taking some samples with me to show him and any of the other members that may be interested.
  21. Here you go... http://www.dndsawbladesonline.com/page/79818204
  22. After cutting 4 puzzles on the Hawk this morning and it performing flawlessly I decided to try out the "aggressiveness" setting on the blade. I couldn't tell much if any difference in the cutting speed or quality, so I set it back to where I had it. I have to admit I'm ecstatic that I was able to cut 4 complete puzzles and didn't have anything get out of whack. One thing that really pisses me off is getting 3/4 of the way through a puzzle, cut a letter out and it doesn't slide in and out both ways... Very difficult to "fix", if not impossible, and end up having to throw away the entire puzzle because I'm so picky. Now I just need the saw to keep performing like this for another 700-800 puzzles. ;-)
  23. Side note... the Pegas blades are thinner so I'm happy using the #5 Pegas whereas I usually use the #3 Olson Mach Speed. The #5 Pegas is stronger and I haven't had one snap while using the Hawk, but sometimes I do have the #3 Pegas snap... and when a blade snaps on the Hawk, it'll startle the crap out of ya.
  24. I like the Pegas Modified Geometry #3 and #5 on my Hawk but sticking with the Olson Mach Speed #3 on my DeWalt after tying the Pegas but didn't like them for some reason. Cutting 3/4" poplar
  25. That bizarre wobble I showed in videos ended up being simply because the blade wasn't perfectly vertical. I had the table tilted about a full degree to one side in order to get the blade perpendicular to the table. What I should have realized was the blade wasn't aligned well and when the saw was running it was causing the weird wobble as well as a good amount of the vibration I was experiencing. Using the set screws in the blade top and bottom blade holders to properly align the blade is all it took. My table is now set at 0 and the wobble only happens at the highest speed which I don't need to be running anyway and the vibration is virtually gone. I look forward to cutting some actual puzzle pieces tomorrow and see how it goes. The real test will be if things stay aligned and accurate as the weeks and months of cutting start to add up.
