  1. I just pulled up what I've been buying from Walmart and now they're showing a different picture and the description has changed... Has anyone seen/tried this particular liner? I was very happy with the other type (still shown in the 2nd picture). I hope they don't screw me over with a new, crappy version. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Shelf-Liner-Roll-Clear-12-inches-x-30-feet/16224481
  2. Steve, are you toying with me? LOL
  3. Great start. As mentioned, curves and arcs are tricky and take practice. You'll eventually learn how to use "pivot points" for lack of a better phrase in holding the pieces and pivoting to make curves in order to avoid stopping, adjusting, creating flat spots. Nothing you can do but keep doing it until you get the feel for it. Use scrap wood to practice when you don't have anything you really need to make. Keep up the good work.
  4. Yeah, I'm nothing if not persistent... or hard headed... I wanted to give the saw every opportunity to win me over. But in the end I have to break up with her... just before Valentine's Day... LOL
  5. I still love making the goofy little puzzles, it's very relaxing to me. On a daily basis, I cut for only about 90 minutes a day unless it's crunch time for a big event. And the whole idea behind cutting 5 a day is so I don't end up in those crunch situations. We'll see how many years I last. Besides, I'm very routine oriented. :-)
  6. I love the Hawk BM26... it's a great cutting, precise saw, but it's just not the saw for me. I swapped it out with my DeWalt in my cutting area over the weekend. I won't get into why it isn't the right saw for me, that's all covered in another post I made a week or two ago. It's just like Ford -vs- Chevy, Toyota -vs- Honda, Nike -vs- Reebok, it boils down to personal preference. I can imagine someone who does fretwork and detail cutting would love it. And someone who doesn't feel the need to cut 1600 puzzles in one year. ;-) If anyone in North Carolina or nearby is interested in getting a great saw I'll give you a good deal, let me know. You can use it as an excuse to enjoy a weekend at the beach. ;-) I'm in no hurry to get rid of it, it's not in my way.
  7. Hi Everyone and a special hello to new members, Although winter is still fully in force, spring isn't too far away and that means the beginning of markets, events, shows for many crafters for many areas. Realizing that not everyone sells their products, but for those that do or anyone thinking about it, I put together the attached "booklet" based on my experience the past 2 seasons that I like to share wherever I can. A lot of it is common sense type items, but trust me, when you're getting started your brain is so full of stuff sometimes you forget about the simple things. If you glean a couple of tidbits of useful information from this, great and please share any other things I left out or you have found to be helpful. Iggy Woodcraft By Scott eBook 20170928.pdf
  8. Once I got more 45, I threw away the rest of the can of 77... that stuff is pure evil. LOL
  9. Hi Jes, welcome aboard. The motion of the scroll saw always looks unusual on video. On my DeWalt, I'm running at speed 7 out of 8, it just looks slow. If you have any interest, here is one of the animal puzzle patterns to give a try. Let me know if you have any other questions. Iggy Rescue1.pdf
  10. Every day is puzzle day in Iggy Land! :-)
  11. I like to look like a professional as opposed to the one trick pony hack that I am. LOL Yes, I use 2 blades... one for the word puzzles out of poplar and one for the kids puzzles out of pine. :-)
  12. I really hope I don't get on too many peoples nerves, but... attached is something I just put together listing the different things I use such as the shelf liner, shrink wrap bags, mineral oil, etc. Since a lot of folks ask me about this stuff I finally put it all together with links to where the items can be bought. Obviously this is just a listing of what I use, not necessarily the best options or choices, but things I've found to be useful or good quality. Let me know if any questions. 13. If they weren't marked in the package they came in, it would be a total guess as to what brand, type, size, etc. Best thing to do is buy some variety packs of Flying Dutchman or Olson, or whatever brand you're interested in and be sure to keep them in the packaging they come in until you set up a blade sorting system. P.S. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to figure out what blades to try/use. :-) Just don't overthink it.
  14. Test tube holder and plastic tubes. I use the sticker from the baggy the blades came in to wrap around the tube. I need to buy some stickers for blades that don't come with a sticker.
  15. Amazon used to carry the 12" wide shelf liner, but stopped, so I order it from Walmart, free shipping with $35 order https://www.walmart.com/ip/Duck-Brand-Peel-Stick-Adhesive-Laminate-Clear-12-in-x-36-ft/16224481
  16. FYI - 3M 45 from Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/3M-General-Purpose-45-Adhesive/dp/B000PCWRMC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1517086249&sr=8-1&keywords=3m+45
  17. The 3M 77 is ridiculously super sticky, I personally don't like it at all. Any overspray or areas that you don't use for gluing a pattern is just so sticky it feels messy. I use 3M 45 and it's fine for paper patterns and not nearly as crazy. LOL
  18. Side note... I use watered down food coloring for my colors (blue and green) and had "accidentally" made a batch of brown last year and that's what I've been using but finally used it up and needed to find a new source since they don't make brown food coloring and what I had mixed up was in an attempt to make purple (don't ask LOL) So, I used RIT dye and what you see above with the Pelican's is my first time using it. Overall I'm happy with it but I think I'll start wiping off the excess as it's coming out a little bit too dark and it's difficult to read the letters. I don't wipe off the excess with the blue and green pieces using the food coloring.
  19. Last year I had Harvey create the CAROLINA BEACH sea turtle and the KURE BEACH dolphin and they proved to be very popular so I wanted to expand the collection for 2018. I look forward to seeing which ones end up being the most popular. CB and KB are the two beach towns here on our island. The standing pelican does say "BEACH" in the base, I'll need to take better photos for promoting.
  20. Hey RJ, Apparently there are thousands of existing crests for names. If you google "Fraser crest" the image comes up that Harvey turned into a pattern as just one example. He's not designing or creating crests, he's turning existing ones into patterns. I hope that helps clarify. I'm learning about crests as well.
  21. Hi All, Harvey mentioned to me that he had been asked to create patterns for a handful of family crests by a friend of his and he sent me a couple of samples of them. I'm pretty clueless about such things, but apparently there are thousands of crests out there for family names and Harvey is wondering if there's a broader market for them so I said I'd mention it out here and hear what anyone has to say. Have any of you been asked about crests or done any before? See attached examples for Fraser and Sutherland Fraser Crest.pdf Sutherland Crest.pdf
  22. In theory, everyone was supposed to go chip readers almost 2 years ago, but still many merchants haven't. I look forward to having the chip/contactless reader this coming year.
  23. As to speed, they've gotten much faster lately. Even a couple of extra seconds is better than having to hand over my phone every time someone makes a purchase. As far as a PIN, there are no pins with credit cards. If someone uses their debit card, I'm not sure. I've never had to deal with a PIN using the swipe method.
  24. For those of you that sell at events and accept credit cards... great news... Starting in April, customers won't have to sign for purchases. But, it's for chip cards, so if you don't already have a chip reader, you'll need to get one. The Square version is only $49, I just ordered mine. It'll make life so much easier with dozens of transactions not having to ask the customer to scribble crap on my phone screen. http://www.wral.com/major-credit-cards-will-no-longer-require-signatures-for-purchases/17287227/
  25. I 2nd that... Great puzzle book. I sell a ton of these. And that's what started it all for me... I made a few of these for my grand-daughter, then made 40 for the local elementary school, some for the library... ran out of people to give them to and then stumbled across Harvey's patterns and it all snowballed. https://www.amazon.com/Making-Wooden-Dinosaur-Toys-Puzzles/dp/1565238907/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516750093&sr=8-1&keywords=dinosaur+scroll
