  1. Right now I print, glue, painters tape and cut. Trying to get down what this guy is doing in this video. So far not getting as good results as he shows. (the pattern transfer part, from around 5.30 to around 13:00)--If anyone else has done this, would like to hear how yours turned out. https://youtu.be/YbrOlc9-1Lk
  2. Still new at scrolling so this just might be a newbie question. Did a search did not find much. I have been cutting out some trivets. Started with an FD polar blade, I was not making progress. Switched to spiral blade, found cutting the pattern easy. However I now have a major sanding issue. The polar blades made a nice cut with only a little sanding and good to go. Now the spiral blade looks like I used a chain saw. Going to need a lot of sanding. Anyone done a lot of sanding in tight areas,....or should I just call these a learning experience.
  3. Not carpet. Reminds me of a crystal structure forming. Not salt or borax. Don't have it in my shop,...I think.
  4. I made an effort to not get to many in the shots. I would guess around 100, more in the food court then in the arts area. Not bad I think for a Tuesday from 11am to a little after 12 noon when I left. Amazing for this area. Really horrid in supporting events and sports teams. More people late in the day when the live music starts. I was happy to learn these people were making money and not just there to get their name out.
  5. Local Arts and Crafts event. I went today for a few reasons, mostly I wanted to find out if these people were making money. Perhaps make a few friends in the Arts and Crafts in this area. For the most part everyone was nice and talkative. Only one would actually get into how much he had made and expenses. He was going to be there for the whole of the event so his total expenses for the even are 1200. His current sales at the time I was there noon today was 1822. So not only did he cover his expenses already but has made a nice little profit, with several more days to go in the event. This guy had a lot of small turned items. Bracelets for 30, all made of many different types of wood. None of the items he had up were over the 500 dollar range. No scroll saw items, as close as it got was a guy who had made some boxes with a band saw. Another guy there was making picture frames out of old reclaimed wood. Stuff I am not sure I would use, knowing a lot of that old paint has lead in it. He did not tell me he was selling a lot, but got the impression he had done very well. The frame prices were also in the lower range, 20 to 50. www.redriverrevel.com The space rental is 750 for the week, there is also a half week price. The event is every day, starts right at 11:00, closing down midnightish. So it would not be for the faint of heart.
  6. A bit over 1/2 inch across my thumb print. Made it bleed a bit longer then it would have naturally, Then washed it and applied abx band aids. Even after 30 years as a nurse it some times amazes me how quick the body recovers. Oh yea lesson learned. Figured it was red oak that was why the stuff would not cut on my PC, I will keep in mind the slow dry time. New to a lot of this. I have no idea what you are trying to say.
  7. Cut my thumb on my scroll saw blade. For some time I have been wanting to start to cut out trivets. So for the past months I kept an eye out for people who were cutting down trees. Picked up a few chunks, let them cure/dry. Cut out a chunk and with my belt sander smoothed it out. I started cutting on my porter cable, but the #5 and 6 polar and spiral blades I have where just snapping no matter how slow the speed or how slow I pushed the work. So pulled out my old master craft scroll saw and pinned blades. I should have clamped it down, but did not. It vibrates, I was only paying attention to the where I was cutting. As the saw started to tip, reached up to steady the saw in doing so managed to get my thumb in the saw bade. Lesson, bolt down your saws, no matter how innocent it might look. I will have to find/make a folding table.
  8. Have to watch the whole video. The oil is to give the wood some moisture. before applying the lacquer.
  9. I do what Steve dose.
  10. Excellent. Reminds me of home. Just need a little jump around, some fresh cheese curds and one in a frosty mug.
  11. Atheism is based in the warks of darwin, just as every protestant faith is based on the bible. As a society it is better to work out right and wrong in a construct that shows right and wrong, which comes from that 2000 year old book. The society you live in now. Atheism is a belief system just like every other faith,................we are way off the scroll saw topic here.
  12. On the face of it yes, and in today's self centered culture,..... In a life time of running into them(atheist) here and there, talking about most. I am sure somewhere there is an atheist that dose not fit that mold. As already pointed out it is its own religion. Survival of the fittest leaves little room for someone else.
  13. Interesting this has made it to 3 pages. The atheist I have meet through the years are very self centered and cheap. I would not make any of the items for the simple reason people see these and that is it, welcome to lost sales.
  14. I used CA in a repair. The stuff soaked into the wood. Making a very obvious spot. I tried to sand out the spot, Ended up having to toss it out and re-cut the piece.
  15. Glue a few pieces together then make a trivet. Save some for segmented work.
  16. apron is a good idea. keep me from spreading dust far and wide.
  17. Local here the heat index has been running between 100 to 116. However we have been having cloud cover and rain the past few days, So I have pulled out some old pine to see how much of this rust I can work off. Got better once I switched back to a regular blade.
  18. Oh wow, just what I needed.
  19. I'm still new. Watched the video. The miter part looks cool. I might be able to figure out something like that for my current saw. Don't like the blade change set up. I do wonder what value that foot thing and being able to change the head height would make in cutting.
  20. This might be a little stretch for some in NC,....but New Orleans the birthplace of Jazz is filled with fantastic ideas. Street signs(Rue Bourbon). Some of the clubs(The spotted cat). These two just as a start.
  21. woops posted before searching,....sorry about that.
  22. I have a nice pattern for one. Just have a few questions for some who have cut them out already. How thick was the wood used? Any kind of stain or coating of any kind used? thanks in advance.
  23. As a Packer fan, all I have to do is point to the record over the past dozen or so years.
  24. First item I have cut that I like how it looks. Made a few mistakes. Have to find a way to sand in very tight spaces. 2 small over cuts on the other side. The stand did not take well to the dye. Cedar main part, stand is pine and 3 layer hard wood plywood. Watco clear lacquer. Minwax ebony dye. Medea comart white paint. Gorilla wood glue. FD NS5 blade. Porter Cable scroll saw. Ryobi sander. 40 and 120 sanding belts. 150 sand paper. The first 5 coats of lacquer looks down right ugly. Was starting to think I had totally messed up. Took out some 150 sand paper and worked it over. Then added 3 more coats. Now it looks good, well to me that is. All opinions welcome.
