  1. Thanks Russell. Will put this away for now as I work only outside and the weather is turning bad here now. I will cut it serve real times starting with cardboard before moving up to cheap softwoods so I can check and adjust if needed, hopefully not. I'm hoping to mount wit a small slow battery operated motor so it can it tick away whenever I turn it on. Cheers.
  2. Definitely an odd one but I'd love a pattern for this. Hope this works. https://media.giphy.com/media/Z5ocG1nRUwJlm/giphy.gif
  3. Great work on a great design. Think I might try stack cutting for the first time. That's if you want to share the pattern. Dave.
  4. Brilliant work, everything about it I like. I learned a little from the video as well. I need a workshop, stop working outside when it's only 5degrees. Better eyesight. A new saw. And a lot more patience. Thanks for the upload.
  5. Love the anchor, might pinch the idea one day.
  6. I did try a little color for the birds but couldn't find a way to give it a very light hint. Maybe I could of tried color after sealing the wood more, might try that way another time.Cheers everyone. Dave.
  7. The cut outs are gone, I just put various coloured cards between it and a backer board till I found a color I liked. Then sealed it to make it waterproof. The frame I made from inch and half square stock. Routed all the outside, routed a half inch channel on the inside so it would hold the frond and back together. Finish is medium oak stain on cheap soft wood frame and not the best birch ply. Please explain Rockytime, what can't you see? Thanks for all the comments.
  8. Big thanks to Birchbark for help with the pattern. This is my first entry to the bragging section.
  9. Thanks everyone, I'll keep practising.
  10. Cheers Roly, will try Jewsons, I'm sure there's a local to me. The place I normally use for timber would sell only a full sheet fo nearly £50.
  11. Think it's just a cheap birch ply, it's not as good as I expected. In the uk I have to get it delivered, no local stockists. It was described as " laser cut for hobbyists" Thanks for all the comments, when I decide on the finish I will post a pic in the bragging section.
  12. Wondered who would spot the deliberate mistake. This is a gift for my friends John and Emma Robbins, so yes 2b's is correct this time.
  13. I'm not that happy with color myself, glad it was just a try on the reverse. Maybe if the wood was darker,,,, but that's another try.
  14. Hi, this is about no.6 project for me. Please be as critical as you, pick as many faults as you can. I've also turned it upside to try a hint of color to see what happens. Yes or no for the color.
  15. Some good answers thank you. My saw has only one speed, it's cheap. I mentioned speed as in my feeding speed. I have tried different blades, but still need lots more practice to learn which blade is best for which jobs. I always tension the blade as much as possible, sometimes overtight. Again practice and patience. Here's a very rough idea of what I'm trying to get across, it's not the fuzzies more the quality of cut. (My cuts aren't this bad or I'd give up 😄) I'm using a 9mm birch ply here, not Baltic, and don't think the quality is very good.
