  1. I can only add one thing. Blade tension. Without sufficient tension circles and tight corners are difficult.
  2. There is a wheelchair Hawk on craigslist for $800. Space is a big problem as is the price.
  3. Hard to explain. Has to do with the size of the saw table. My saw is not very big so the distance to slide is short. The Delta Uni-saw table was much larger and would not needed the blade way up. I don't think I'm explaining this too well except that due to table size restrictions I have to have the blade way up. I hope I'm not just confusing the issue more.
  4. Never heard of miter sliders. Sounds interesting. Where did you get them?
  5. I would like a saw low enough to use an office chair. That can only happen by building a low stand which I won't and can't do. I think saw stands are tall to accommodate scrollers that saw standing. The Hawk can only be purchased with legs because of the way they are constructed. However, they should make them available with adjustable legs. The legs could be two piece with a series of holes for adjusting. The Hegner is sold with the legs optional.
  6. They do have a light but use a couple of batteries which make them too heavy to be comfortable.
  7. Can you just find a taller stool. The Hawk is tall. I even have mine raised with 3" casters. I just use a tall stool.
  8. I'm very sorry for your loss. I can't conceive of losing my wife of 55 years. Your work is exciting. Lots of work in those crosses. I grew up in ND.
  9. Having done the test do you now think you may try using them or do you come away thinking you'll give them up?
  10. I take my patterns to Office Depot and have them copied in red. At the same time they can enlarge them for me if I want. I don't do inkscape. I used an LED magnifier for some time but now only use the magnifier for an excellent light source. I have discovered I scroll better with a head magnifier. I don't have to swing a light out of the way when changing blades and there is nothing between me and the pattern. The head magnifier is cheap, has excellent optics, comes with five different power lens and is very comfortable. They are available on ebay for $10 - $16 depending who is selling them. They are all the same.
  11. Here are a couple of photos of my frame sled. It is crude but accurate (enough for me anyway). I made a first one the after seeing all my mistakes I made this one. Still lots of things I would change. I spent $20 for Delrin strips for the runners. They would have been ideal except the six foot piece had a bow in it. Stuff was impossible to straighten. I should have just ripped a 1" (3/4") board. It would have worked as well. The clamps aren't necessary. Others here suggested a strip of 80 grit sandpaper to grip the frame material. Also my saw is just a small collapsible Kobalt from Lowe'd. It does everything I need to do quite nicely. The sled is used with the blade at it's highest position.
  12. Stop speaking about my Denver Donkeys like that!
  13. I don't recall the thread but tomorrow I can get a picture of my sled.
  14. Dynamic work. Beautiful box and thanks for the tips.
  15. Beautifully done and creative too!
  16. That's very clever. I love it.
  17. That looks great. You did well.
  18. An eagle portrait by WhiteWolf. I think I got the pattern from the pattern library but going back to look for it I cannot find it. Perhaps just my bad eyes. Cut from 1/4" BB, 50/50 BLO, #2/0 Pegas MG blade. I will say the Pegas blade cuts like a charm but dulls quickly cutting plywood.
  19. Great job. I love cutting wild life. That is a beautiful pattern.
  20. I just have to say, I don't hear these stories about the Hawks and Hegners which have a much simpler mechanism than most other saws. Obviously these other saws have qualities which make them desirable. I can't say as I have only used an EX for just a few minutes. It was very smooth.
  21. That's great and with spirals too!
  22. Your patterns are terrific. You are a talented scroller. The puzzles are very unique.
  23. GREAT JOB!
  24. That is beautiful. The pattern is great and I love the wood.
