    I use the 3/16 underlayment for things that aren't really important to me. I use it for clock dials and backers. I also use it as an underboard when I'm cutting 1/8" BB with Pegas blades as the blades are aggressive. Gives a bit better control. I have not purchased and don't remember what I paid but I just checked online with Home Depot and it is now $17.95 for 8X10.

    My go to drill bit is #68 but I have others going to #80. The Dremel chuck can be chucked up in your larger chuck. I do that all the time and it is accurate. Another route is a #0 Albrecht chuck for only about $500. It holds from 0 to 1/6. Another less pricy is a group of two Jacobs chucks with an R8 arbor. They are 0 to 1/16" and 5/64 to 1/2 and only$179 plus $9.75 shipping. I own multiple chucks but for me the Dremel chuck is the answer. Just kidding about Albrecht and Jacob's chucks. Way beyond my means. The picture of one of my 0-1/8" Jacobs chucks. It's a cute little bugger. Still use the Dremel though.

    I went to Paxton last week and 5X5' 1/8" is $25. My pre-finished 5X5' 1/8" was $35.00 per sheet. You got a bargain.

    Nice work. The bowl is outstanding. Simple? Is there lathe work involved or is it scroll saw. Lots of sanding that's for sure!

    Cloe and Cooper are my daughter's dogs. I come back to the well and request portraits of them. The designers here have made numerous patterns for me which I appreciate.

    I think, what the heck do I know as I have only cut a few compound pieces, you need the pattern of the mermaid facing the opposite way. Hope I said that correctly.

    The Super Pike blades are really a metal cutting blade. The 2/0 has 42 teeth per inch. I cut three milliammeter pre-finished BB without using a back up board underneath. That bottom piece would just be a waste. The blades allow me to cut very fine detail. I can also run the saw a little faster. For fretwork they are my go to blade. Blades are the cheapest part of the hobby.

    Interesting for sure Vern. That saw mill is might efficient. I just remember the huge circular blades and powered with the power take off on a John Deere. Loved all those things as well as threshing machines and steam tractors.

    I can only scroll for four hours max. I take short breaks to rest my eyes. That means it takes me several days. The Super Pike blades also break easily and I have the same problem of bending the blades and kinking them.

    This was fun to cut. I must be the slowest scroller in the world. I spent 15 hours and 36 minutes on the saw. Probably another 5 hours changing blade from hole to hole and drilling 786 holes. The image is 10-1/2 X 8. Used 27 2/0 Super Pike blades and cut 3mm Pre-finished BB.

    I can understand why people love their Excalibur, Pegas saws and similar saws. The tilting head rather than a tilting table plus top loading makes them very desirable. If I were 20 years younger I would spring for a Pegas or Seyco. Right now I no longer have the strength or energy to mess with rebuilding a saw. That is why I loved the Hawks I've had and adore the two Hegners I have. The Hegners are worth every dollar invested. They are pretty much indestructible and the amount of maintenance is negligible.

    Gorgeous pattern and you did a magnificent job of cutting. I also count the number of holes. I drill 10 at a time. I also have a clock on the saw to keep track of saw time just to satisfy my curiosity.

    Today I visited Paxton Hardwood. I purchased two 3mm 5X5 sheets of prefinished BB. I have been using quite a bit of it. Cuts beautifully and I don't have to finish it in any way. My point is the cost. It was $35 ea. Price was fine for me. I then inquired about the price of standard Russian Baltic Birch. It is $25 per sheet. That is what I paid perhaps, three months ago. It must be just hardwoods that are going up in price.

    Hi Jim and welcome to the Village. No, do not remove the swirl marks. These are caused by a fly cutter of some kind during the machining process. They actually help you. They consist of very small peaks and valleys, Your wood will only be supported by the peaks. Therefore in theory (I think actually) your wood should slide easier as t is only in contact with half the surface of the table. Wax is good. I may get some comments on this but I am convinced. I've had three Hawks and never had a problem with the table surface. Now go and enjoy that saw!
