Thanks John. I do understand side pressures as I have 2 milling machines using collets. Nothing I would sand would have have much side pressure as I would not doing any shaping but rather even out small missteps I've made. Advice is always useful!

Love the hit'n miss. I belong to hobby machinist's club. I have not made a hit'n miss engine but have made engines I run with compressed air. Beautiful sign you have made.

I think I will go the drill press route. I need to so little sanding of that sort I really don't want to use the bench space. I could store it under a bench somewhere but do not relish picking it up again with my back. Thank you for all the input. You all have made me see the light!

A couple of years ago I bought my wife a Craftsman 5 horse snow blower. She gave it to my poor, poor 6' 2" big strong son-in-law just because he has a 3 car garage and a long driveway and a strong 28 year old at home. go figure.

I really wished I had the room for the one you have. If my shop were bigger I'd like my DC routed to every machine. I can't so I have to use the one extra hose and move it around. Then I have to pull my scroll saw away from the corner to get at the CHEAP and CRAPPY plastic gates I got from WoodCraft. Hence the wheels on my saw.

Ray, surely you jest. They have sentimental value. Twas one of the first anniversary gifts I bought for her. Her heart would break. We often reminisce about the 1967 blizzard. She was 11 months pregnant and by the time I got home from work our 30' double driveway was all cleaned out. Brings tears to our eyes. Shame on you for making such a callous suggestion!

If I had to wear one of those bulky things my scrolling days would be over and my saw would be on C/L. Dust collection is the only way to go. My HF 13 gallon DC was cheap and works great as does a Dust Deputy. I also use a box fan with a cheap furnace filter. After a year the dust on the filter is nil. If my ceiling were not filled with lighting I would also put in one of those air filters. I cut with my nose up to the blade as that is the only way I can see and use a head magnifiers. The bulk on my face would be too much. I congratulate those that do use a mask. But that's just me.

I'm almost stone deaf but I like my blades very tight. In my mind's ear I like to imagine it as E above high C in the treble clef. Only time I ever break a blade is a #1 blade fed from the bottom. Sometimes when they look bent up like a pretzel they will break.

BTW, the shafts on the hold downs are excellent 1/4" machinable material. Lots of space is taken up with my steel and brass stash.

I still have the hold downs from the three Hawks I had. They are in a tool cabinet somewhere.

Thanks for all the input. I'm considering if indeed I wish to make a purchase. Weighing the need with the cost and space required. If I got my wife's 3 snow shovels out of the way and into the shed it would give me a few extra inches to work with.
