Yeah I saw woodcraft add also. Actually a little cheaper too. But I purchased it through Bear woods cuz I rather give them the business. Haha that’s what happened to me I himmed and hawed about an Ex for so long the Pegas came out in the meantime. It took me a while to actually upgrade because (I’m sure some will think I’m crazy) but I love my Poter cable and just never saw the need for an upgrade. Still no need for upgrade. But I just want it.

I just pulled the trigger on a pegas saw. Not sure how long till I get it tho. I’ve been looking for an ex for a while now but I decided to go the pegas route. Too much manufacturing confusion with the Ex.
-
Thx for the info. “Hold off and go for Pegas sounds like good advice”. i wasn’t aware that the 16 was still produced in tawain. HD is selling them pretty cheap last I checked, but I don’t want it if it’s Chinese. They also sell a King in 16 which I thought was ex just different branding but all I saw were more than I could get a 21 Pegas or around the same price. Not sure why price so high.
-
Kev Iv been under the notion that the China made are not as good as the made in Taiwan. I guess this post kind of confirms. The only Taiwan made ex’s that I know of are the kings which aren’t technically ex.but you get the idea, I could be wrong tho. I had my heart set on a 16 inch ex. But all I see are made in China. I would rather spend a little more and get a Pegas 21.. You say they are made in the same plant as pegas and hope for better quality but I thought pegas were made in tawain. This is just an assumption but I would think even if they are the same saws. The quality control is better in Tawain plant.

That’s good to hear that you are enjoying your saw. I have my eye on the pegas. Just not sure when Im going to pull the trigger.

Yeah I agree Dewalt is a good tool. I even mentioned that in my post. But what I’m saying is I try never to buy Dewalt because imo they are over priced. Just not a good value. I agree cordless tools is a different ballgame than scroll saws but I even feel the dw788 is over priced for a little more you bump up into the Excalibur’s, seyco or Pegas saws. Im off topic of the op now. I just wanted to explain what I meant. What I’m saying is if it’s a toss up between Dewalt and another quality tool you’re going to get more value from most other names. Just my two cents. lol
-
All Dewalt tools are way overpriced IMO. I think they’re are good tool just not a good value. I have porter cable cordless. I like them. I have many Rigid tools also. Nothing bad to say about them. i always try to stay away from Dewalt tho

If you get that. Go for the 20 sheets at 12x24 for same price. This way if you need it bigger you got it. Or you can cut some 8x 12 and get three out of one . Just a thought

Thx guys I used a polar # 5 (I think) I’ll chk later to make sure. I found it in FD assorted packs I had. It cut perfect super easy. It cut easier than wood. No melting or splinter.I wish I had known I would have made better lines and cut right to them and could been finish. But now I’m just going to trim with spiral pattern bit on the router.
-
Thx for help. Hmmm sounds like this is not going to be easy. I’m going to have to do some experimenting. Problem is I need the entire sheet I have for the project. I may even think about cutting it into strips I need with table saw and weld it back together forming the square I need if that makes sense. I still have to router a slot in it. Maybe I’ll check out cutting it with a spiral up/down bit. I’m not sure

I have a project I’m going to try. I plan on bonding two quarter inch sheets so will be 1/2 inch or I might cut separate and then bond. It will be square then I want to cut out the centerpiece square. I want to be left with sqare with a big square cut oof center. I’m going to cut it like a 1/16 or so larger and then router it nice using a template. If anyone has experience working with acrylic what would you suggest for blade. I’m open to all advice. I may even try to cut it with the router rather than scroll saw at all. Not sure. Thx in advance for any help.

If it’s regular wood glue you can try a heat gun.

He says in the description he is willing to drive up to 90 miles to meet you. Also states he has about 100 hours on the saw. Doesnt look like a listing that wouldn’t be what it is pretty straight forward. I also like the part about no haggling price he says I already price it low for sale. The guy doesn’t wanna play any games. My kind of guy I wish I was close

The 1.75 HP would not consern me at all. That’s plenty of power for a table saw. If not ur blade is dull or you’re doing something with the saw you shouldn’t be doing. With a good sharp blade that saw will do anything you ask with in reason. The only way I would go for more horse power is if running a professional cabinet shop probably get a longer life. That saw you’re looking at is a beauty! i would also check out powermatic.

Scrollnado Dust Collection for DeWalt
Brianr24 replied to Iguanadon's topic in General Scroll Sawing
My first impression was ... a bit pricey for a tube. But I understand if you wouldn’t want to make one and rather spend ur time scrolling. What I don’t get is all you guys that use dust collection when scrolling. How do u run a shop vac that long ? and how do you put up with the noise? I use dust collection on my other tools but it only run for a few minutes at a time. I would think you must burn up a shop vac pretty quick. -
Lol Kevin it was kind of a rhetorical question . But I do appreciate ur explanation. My opinion is the shipping companies cater to amazon and bigger companies ( which I understand why they do) but I still like to complain about it lol. Maybe ur right but I highly doubt u can ship that saw for 70 bucks. Maybe if you were shipping I t ur neighbor. I know I shipped a small bench for a child that I built so I can be disassembled for cheaper shipping. I forgot what it weighed but definitely not as much as that saw. And that cost me 70 bucks to go two states over. My wife just had to ship a piece of luggage to a customer for work cuz of a screw up. That cost 200$. I know there are ways to use certain boxes and little tricks. To get some deals. It doesn’t really matter anyway. I should just be thankful I could get a saw shipped to me so cheaply and shut my mouth lol.

Iv been keeping my i on ex saws mostly 16 inch but I’m not opposed to 21 I will see when time comes. I see the 16 is on amazon prime for $519.00 delivered to my house. Tempting. I also see Walmart is selling them too. I know HD also. i still don’t understand how they can ship me a saw for a great price prime. But if I try to ship that saw I’m guessing would probably cost well over $200.00 bucks. I know they get a better rate but jeez.

Mine can be used on either side but on the right side gives much more room 36 inches I think. I think the left is about 12.

If I understand what ur problem is? Once you change scan to bitmap you can erase anything you don’t want hence isolating what you do. Use the eraser tool. But you have to trace image to bitmap or it will not allow you to erase. or tape white paper over the image you don’t want to scan. Before you scan it. I use the eraser method.
-
I like the catalog from them way better than there web site. I’m not sure what it is but I see lots of patterns in the catalog that appeals to me. I see them same patterns on line i don’t even give a second look. I used there big foot and black bear patterns for yard. The problem is good plywood is like 50 or 60 bucks a sheet and I don’t even know what they’re getting for treated plywood.
-
Ray I scan them then I import them to Inkscape. Once in Inkscape I trace to bitmap then duplicate so you have two bitmap images now then you can do pretty much anything to that image.
-
I have my kids use the saw as I think it’s perfect tool for young children to be introduced to woodworking. But I know they will show interest for a while lose it for awhile back and forth. Especially the teen years they probably will lose interest. I will never push anything on them just introduce them to everything I can and let them decide. but I bet dollars to doughnuts in the long run maybe long after I’m on the other side of the grass they will come back to the little things they were introduced to growing up.

I still remember exactly where I was. on a set of knee boards finishing a concrete patio on morton street. Lol. the home owner came outside with the news. We couldn’t stop she kept updating us with the unbelievable news as it was happening. Sad day. Beautiful work tho!
