  1. I'm making scroll saw bowls. Been gluing them together then spraying or brushing Urethane on them. but it's hard to sand them between coats once they are glued together as a basket or bowl. cn I do the Urethane on each piece and then glue them together? I also do some with Butcher Block oil and Feed and wax. Can these be done before glue up? thanks
  2. WOW, I never would of thought of all these available options. Thanks all. I will see what is available in my area, & will follw up on them. John
  3. Thanks much, will try all suggestions.
  4. where would I get re-positional glue, and sorry I don't follow about using 2" sellotape on top. John
  5. Great thanks
  6. Thanks
  7. Does it clean off the wood good?
  8. With shelf lining would they copy the pattern to it, or print directly to it? thanls
  9. Thanks for your reply. Can you recommend where I can buy full sheet shipping labels?do you copy the patterns onto them? Is 3M77 in a spray can, & can it be purchased in a lumber yard or would I have to get it at a hobby shop?
  10. Thanks for your help.So it should be used on the back of of the wood or does it matter if it's the good side?
  11. What is the recommended glue to stick patterns onto the wood for scrolling?
  12. We went to Ontario to visit our son, . I found a DeWalt 788 Type 1, for sale in Ontario, close to my son's place. I brought it home with me, what an awesome looking machine, much heavier than the Dremel 1680, which I sold. The Dewalt even came withe the arm lifter, but the guy didn't know how to install it & he lost the little thing that goes on the end of the arm, & hooks onto the bolt to hold the arm up. will have to make something. Also would anybody happen to know where I cam pick up a stand for it in Canada? Home Depot in the USA have it for $74.99, but not available at Home Depot in Canada... Or better yet, does any body have plans to build one on casters so it can be moved? Happy scrolling everyone., John
  13. Thank you all for the great welcome.. Special thanks to Joe M. for the book he sent me , what a great gesture that was. We are leaving in an hour for Ontario to visit our son, (1880 mile drive) will take about 5 days each way pulling our camper. And no computer .Mine caught fire last week & fried. I found a DeWalt 788 Type 1, for sale in Ontario, close to my son's place. Used very little & like new, so my son picked it up for me. I wanted to send him money for it, but he said that was my Father's Day present. It'll be coming home with me, early August. I will be off line till then.. Happy scrolling everyone., John
  14. Thanks Jeff, looks like I found a great place for advice to help me with my new venture. Scrolling looks like a challenging hobby, but also rewarding if I can learn to do it. John
  15. Thanks for the great tip about drilling. I will try doing that once I get my 788 saw home. Really looking forward to using it
  16. Thanks very much for the welcome. I got really frustrated with the Dremel, so not doing much with it. A lot of scrollers have one & use it satisfactorily. But I can't get the hang of blade changing & threading on it. Obviously it's me, & probably would get used to it given time.. We are leaving to Ontario in a week to visit our son. There is a Dewalt 788 for sale close to him, so he is picking it up tomorrow, & will keep it for me till we get there. So looks like my scrolling will start in Aug. when we get back. Luckily I installed a wood heater in my shop, & it'll be right behind my saw. At first I think I will have a lot of kindling for the stove for the first while.. lol.. In time I hope I can make something worthy of pictures to post. John
  17. thanks Charley. I've never had a Dewalt so I really appreciate your post before I spend money on a Dewalt light. John
  18. OK, I found a Type 1 near there also, says used very little, like new, $50 more so I think I'll go for that one. still will have to order a locking arm & a light for it.. Hope it will make threading blades easier.. attached are pictures of the Type 1. I can't see what year this one was made, but looks in real nice condition. John
  19. Thanks Jay. yes I am using 3/4" stock. Trying to make a collapsible bowl which requires thicker stock. And of course the cut starts in the middle of the bowl, so the drill hole should be relatively small, not much bigger than the blade I think. As mentioned in another reply I have found a Dewalt 788, but I won't have it till mid July, but am anxious to start sooner. For some reason I seem to be infatuated with collapsible bowls & baskets, & would like to leave some for my 4 children & nieces as gifts & remembrances after I depart this world. lol.. I want to do other scrolling too, but those 2 really got my attention. Thanks for the pliers tip, will have to make that a part of my arsenal by the saw.. John
  20. So far I'm finding it to be an impossible fit, especially with a bit bigger project & the hole is closer to center. The only way is to push the blade from the top, but then have a terrible time of putting the blade into the bottom holder.
  21. After struggling with this saw, I think there has to be a better, easier way. Will be looking to upgrade.. By the way we go to South Texas Feb. & mar. John
  22. Thanks much.. with this saw I can see that top feeding would probably be best for me, unless I can upgrade to a saw where the top arm swings up, like Dewalt or Delta. I will be looking for one.
  23. To me it seems there is very little room. your suggestion makes sense. I will give it a try tomorrow. John
  24. Thanks, Dan.. That is on my tomorrow's to do list.. I'm not much of a boozer, but that saw almost drove me to it today. lol..
