I move around a bit, so the deadman would be a nuisance for me. I made my own switch and can also run my shop vac while the saw is on. Generally don’t though because the noise of the vac drives me nuts.

Your stuff with the underlayment appears to cut a LOT-easier than the vinyl flooring I tried to use. What a blade wrecker mine is! My Pegas MG blades would last 10 minutes at best. And the stuff stinks as I cut too. My saw is in the basement and the smell went through the house. As a bonus it did inspire me to buy a good quality air filter system though.

Painless blades are a good idea, but I meant Pinless blades. LOL

I use Elmer’s spray and don’t have a problem with it. I put pattern in a spray box to control overspray. Also have been using shelf liner for awhile. Comes off easy with little or no residue. Sometimes use heat gun on delicate pieces to ease removal. I get the liner from the Dollar store for a buck a roll. Way cheaper than painters tape and comes off as easy, IMHO.

Hi Jess, welcome from the great white north, and I do mean north and white Eastern Canada. Like already said, try at least for a saw that uses painless blades. Lots of You Tube vids on scrolling for newbies too. I will warn you, this hobbit is addictive! Enjoy.

Hey, Scrappile, thanks. Yes Erv is short for Ervin. Named for my Uncle KIA in Holland in WWII. I grew up in Nova Scotia, and it’s not a common name there either.

I like the Pegas blades, but Olsen has spiral blades that have flat ends for easier clamping without twisting or breaking.

Hi all, I am just getting into scrolling. I am retired and decided I might like scrolling after I inherited an old Craftsman, and very soon decided I needed something better, that needed str aight blades. Got a slightly used DeWalt 788, and started out doing 3D figures. Very much a beginner yet but enjoying it. Got a magnifier/lamp for Christmas that makes a huge difference to old eyes. Not sure if any other scrollers on here from NL cheers, Erv
