  1. Great looking set and board, I too hope to finish my pieces one of these days. Like the cabinet and drawers for the pieces, looks great.
  2. Very impressive piece.
  3. Thank you all for the kind comments, it's been a lot of fun learning how to scroll and make things for my kids. Both my kids like working on things in the garage with me with scrap wood and whatever else they can find.
  4. A few of the things that I have made in the last 2 months as a new scroller. The W was done by my 7 year old son with a just a little help from me to hold the piece down and make tight turns. Got the idea for the spiral from a couple of other designs I had have seen on here and other scroll saw sites. And being from Las Vegas have to support my Las Vegas Golden Knights.
  5. Wow, those are all beautiful pieces. Learn about new things that you can scroll all the time. I was wondering what the dimensions are on them. How wide across? How thick? Thank you
  6. Great looking group of pictures. Thank you for sharing.
  7. My oldest son is almost 7 and I just started teaching him to scroll. So far he has done a couple projects on 1/2" poplar and 1/4" Baltic birch. I stand behind him and mostly just help hold the wood down and let him guide it (help correct his cuts if needed but he's getting the hang of it.) He wants to work on a puzzle next, but wants to get the hang of cutting curves and circles first.
  8. Welcome to the group from a former Seattleite.
  9. Chess board hasn't been used yet, my son's birthday is in a few weeks. Thank you for the invite, been wanting to take a trip to Arizona again.
  10. Bought from Ocooch a couple of times in the last month and they are a great supplier for Baltic birch plywood and hardwoods. Was able to get custom size cuts on the plywood and all the different hardwoods I have purchased are great looking pieces that have no flaws. Everything is well packaged and shrink wrapped tightly. Great prices and shipping rates. They also sell 10 and 20 pound boxes of odds and ends that are seconds for a cheap price and I got some very nice pieces in my mix. Definitely recommend them and will be buying from them again in the future.
  11. New member here to the forum from Las Vegas. Been woodworking for a little while now and during that time I made a chess board for my son for his birthday. When it came time to make the pieces I found I could make them all on a scroll saw, so that's how I got into scrolling. Still getting the hang of it making my kids other projects before working up to the compound cuts, but it's a lot of fun and have also taught my older son (7 years old) how to scroll and he likes it a lot as well. Here is a not so great photo of the chess board before finishing it.
