    I celebrate friends and family with Christmas ornaments for new additions. Just finished the snowman for this year. The heart is a Steve Good pattern. It was a gift for my wife about 9 years ago. I guess I got a year to figure out a new pattern for our 40th.

    This is the pattern that I use. It is from a 2010 scrollsaw woodworking and crafts magazine. It says it is designed by John Browner.

    3M make the same (or very similar) products with different part numbers for different divisions. I work in the automotive industry and we also sell to the industrial market. I often run into items that are the same product being sold with different 3M part numbers depending which division it is sold by

    Just a thought that you could use clear tape and trying taping them on top of a thicker and larger scrap of wood before you make the inside cuts. Maybe 1/4 " thick and 2"x2". That would give a little more support and more area to hold on to.

    Welcome from Pennsylvania! Don't be afraid to ask questions even if they seem dumb to you. We've all been there and some of us still are there. I've been making sawdust for many years with my saw and still learn a lot here.

    Most interior paints are latex (water-based). The water is probably swelling the wood fibers in the end grain layers of the plywood. You could try sealing the edges with a shellac or sanding sealer before painting. I'm not sure if it will help, but it's worth a try.

    Scroller Ltd is part of the Winfield Collection. They are still in business. I didn't see the cabin pattern on their website but I could have missed it.

    Thanks very much for the compliments. The oak box is 3"x6"x1-1/2" high. The ribbons & bow is made of purpleheart, basswood, and cherry. Finish is warm semi-gloss Minwax fast-dry urethane

    Here is my latest project. I bought the book with this pattern several years ago and looked at it several times. I finally decided it was time to try it. I'm not real good at compound cutting, but it went better than expected.

    The shelf was made for a young lady who plays softball and needed a place to hang her ribbons and mini bats. The only scrollwork is the batters on the ends. Both of my boys played high school football and their team name was the eagles. I made helmet ornaments for each player and coach when my younger son was in school.

    I have done many baskets that are oval, square, and rectangular. The patterns that I use have each layer rotated 180 degrees. The oval picture that David posted appear to be designed that way.

    I'm not sure about what you describe as flailing, but I agree that the DW788 has an aggressive cut. I had difficulty with that when I first got mine. I found a YouTube video by Trevor Carter on reducing the aggressiveness of the Dewalt. It is a simple modification where you enlarge the lower arm mounting holes slightly to help it cut less aggressively. I couldn't believe the difference it made with control in tight cuts and turns.

    Spring means butterflies and picnics. Started another butterfly project but not finished yet. The picnic basket was donated to a local veterans support organization for a silent auction.

    I am in southern Pennsylvania and worked in an enclosed unheated pavilion for many years. I used a small propane heater when I was working in it. I never had a problem with rust or condensation on any of my tools, but I always stored my glues inside the house to keep them from freezing.
