  1. Home Free has been on my favorites list for a while now. Don McLean chose them to remake American Pie with him for it's 50th anniversary. I think I've only heard 3 songs they have done with instrumental accompaniment. I saw them in concert and the bass actually vibrates the seats. They are awesome!
  2. I agree with Bill. I don't think water based finishes do anything for cherry or walnut. I do a lot of Christmas ornaments in cherry and also some walnut pieces. I usually use Minwax fast-dry urethane and it really accentuates the grain patterns in either of these woods. I have successfully used solvent based stains on cherry but usually finish walnut with a clear finish.
  3. I don't do too many flowers, but I found a few. Jewelry boxes for great nieces and a basket of flowers for Mother's Day. The rose is a Steve Good pattern. The hummingbird is from Sheila Landry.
  4. When I first saw the color challenge, I was thinking that I don't do much with color. After I looked through my files, I was surprised to see that I did more than I thought.
  5. I consider myself a scroller too. I have made a few furniture pieces over the years. Due to space limitations I still do some smaller woodworking projects, but 90% of my woodworking is scrolling. I like many kinds of scrollsaw projects, but my specialties are ornaments, baskets, and fancy firewood.
  6. I'm not familiar with the RBI setup, but I started with an old Craftsman saw that had a lower blade holder that would fly off when the blade broke. It had a small hole in the holder. I used fishing line to attach it to my stand. It was much easier to find on the end of the line than crawling all over the floor looking for it.
  7. I drew a pattern from one of the stained glass windows at our church. I didn't do the entire window, but each one has a different symbol in the middle. I picked the easiest design to start with. Maybe someday I'll get the other seven windows done! I made them as ornaments for several friends from church.
  8. I made 2 of the P51 airplane clocks, one for my WW2 veteran dad for Father's Day several years ago, and one for my son when he graduated for aviation mechanics school. The pig clock was given to a farmer friend.
  9. I'm not sure on the Hegner, but I couldn't change the speed on my 1997 craftsman single speed saw. I was going to put a lamp dimmer switch on it but l was told then if the motor had a capacitor that you can't adjust the speed. That saw had an AC motor with a capacitor.
  10. The box was a birthday gift for my wife and the ornament was an anniversary gift a few years ago. Both are Steve Good patterns.
  11. I have done several Christmas ornaments through the years from Steve's patterns. I adjust them to approximately 3" wide and cut them from 1/4" cherry.
  12. I use 3M precision masking tape from my local autobody supply. It is a lighter adhesive than most other tapes on the market. Then I spray adhesive on my pattern and stick it on the tape. I have not had any problem peeling it off my finished piece.
  13. The frame is a gift for my son. I usually make at least 40-60 ornaments for family and friends. The frame and dove are Steve Good patterns.
  14. I made this napkin basket for as a gift for my wife a few years ago. She usually receives many compliments on it when we have guests.
